I think the hybrid is hot looking. If that hybrid comes to the US and looks like that, I think it would sell a lot.
Getting like 48mpg in a car like that wouldn't bother me one bit.

Specs for the upcoming civics are everywhere. check www.vtec.net, I'm sure there around there somewhere. So far, in the concept SI, it's the drivetrain from the previous RSX Type S, 2.0 i-vtec engine with a stock LSD, 200 horses. Proposed Brembos under the 17's. The standard Civics should all be recieving 1.8 SOHC i-vtec engines, ranging in hp around 140. I'm going to assume they'll back down the hp on the SI a bit so Honda won't steal any sales from prospective RSX purchasers. There's been a few sightings of the new SI in disguise, and so far it's supposed to look fairly similar to the concept, except with a standard side exhaust and a slightly different wing.
The 2.4 is only in the USDM accord, TSX, CRV, and element, if I remember correctly.

I've driven a few hybrids.. they are pretty nice. Especially the Toyota Prius. I love that car, I wouldn't mind having one. Its about the size of an intrepid, and it reminds me of a Jetson's car every time I get in lol. The dash has GPS and real time car stats.. it has push button start and push button park, and a joystick to control going into drive, neutral and reverse. It gets 60mpg too.. I actually got the tires to tweak when I took off, lol. The civic hybrid and insight are wayyyyy to slow though. It takes off slower than I can walk. hehe. But I guess you shouldn't be worried about speed, but about mpg. Like we have horsepower contest modding now, in the future it will be who can get the most MPG. LOL.
That civic si (or 2 door one near the bottom) looks pretty nice though. They never actually look the same way when they come out on the showroom floor though. I found that out with the Mitsu Eclipse concept-e.

actually from what I've heard- the new SI will look almost identical. I talked with a guy that works in the actual honda plant. He said the only real differnce is the exhaust is to the side, and the hood is not black. The hood is now painted the color of the vehicle - all 1 color.
as far as MPG contests- a group of engineers in Cali go the prius to go over 100mpg by adding additional battery packs and other mods. The downfall is that they only last about 4 years and then need to be replaced. Cost can be upwards of 2-4k I guess?

I think that whole hybrid stuff is some crap. It's good technology for the future, but there's some life left in petrol engines. The Lupo, for example, is great on gas.

Fuel cell is the way of the future. You'll see. I've attended quite a few college seminars where fuel cell developers came and spoke. Fuel cells don't only have to run cars, they can be used in cell phones, pda's, to power your house, etc.. He said that if you have a fuel cell powering your house, it would eliminate widespread blackouts since you would have your own independent source of power. A fuel cell phone would last over a month before it needed to be recharged with hydrogen. Now thats what I'm talkin bout. They just need a few more years to be developed. The current models only work for about a year or two before they stop working. The people at the seminar have sold fuel cell power stations to cell phone companies and some of them are powering cell phone towers here in the US. They are only about 2 or 3 years away from making fuel cells very practical and long lasting.
