Porsche 911 or a C6?
I was wondering what you would rather have for a car, down the road a couple years from now when the current Carrera non S becomes available used. A used 911 non S, or a brand spankin new C6? I am not buying just curious for some educated points of view.
2006 Porsche Carrera 911 (non S, when it becomes available used). http://www.dieselstation.com/wallpap...arrera-009.jpg
Pros:
Sex on wheels
325hp is very quick in a light car
Porsche handling
Fit and finish that is very hard to match IMO
The feel, just being in it
Very well built and reliable
Kick *** resale value
Reputation for excellence
Cons:
The price of a used one with some miles is the same if not a bit more than a brand new C6
Fairly expensive to maintain
I can't really think of many more cons
Chevrolet C6 Corvette (brand new, a couple years down the road) http://www.seriouswheels.com/2005/20...-1600x1200.htm
Pros:
400hp badass car anyways
Looks mean
Lots of bang for the buck
It is brand new
Still handles really well
Original sports car heritage
Ride is not nearly as harsh I don't think
Cons:
Pretty nasty depreciation
Chevrolet build quality
Fit and finish pretty nice but no where near Porsche
There are probobly 3 C6's for every 1 newer 911 you see on the road
All in all is the Porsche worth the extra dollar and mileage to have the car? There just seems to be something about it, I sit in both and theyre both amazing but there is just a feeling I get from sitting in the 911 that makes you, I dunno... it's hot.

I also forgot of another car which is priced a LOT closer to the Corvette... the new Cayman S, brand new priced at about $58,000.00. They say the car is so damn close to the current Carrera non S it's hard to tell the difference in many ways... I never understood Porsche fanatics until I drove that 2001 911 C4 Turbo, and then drove IN the 1999 911... I am a believer... I hope they keep that Cayman around for some time because I still have 4-5 years of college left. Motivation for higher education.
Don't forget to consider the ergonomics of the car.
Sometimes a car looks very good on paper but, depending on your frame size, you may not be comfortable in it.
Seating position, view outside the car, blindspots, etc. all play an important role in how much fun a car is to drive.
The Evo, as we all know, absolutely kicks *** in that department!

you're applying some cons to the Vette that don't fit. I'm biased of course, so I'll stick to pure numbers and second hand opinions. Don't just take my word for it, take Jay Leno's;
(paraphrased slightly) "...love my Z06, you can take it out and run it up to redline all day long and it'll still run tomorrow morning... only car in it's class that I can say that about."
Corvettes are made in the Bowling Green Plant. Their reliability record is COMPLETELY different from the rest of the Chevy line. They're not Toyota tight, but they're no worse than a Porsche.
As for the other.
C5 purchased new in 97 for $45,000, driven fairly regularly and well maintained, will fetch between 20k and 25k right now. That's an almost 9 year old car, mind you.
Not as good as a Porsche, but it's not "nasty depreciation" by any stretch of the imagination.
If you're set on a Porsche, you won't be happy with anything else. I understand the call, but I feel you're out of line in some of your comments about the Vette.
Buy the Porsche, it'll make you happier. I think it's what you really want anyways.

911 all the way as far as I'm concerned. Like you said if it was a new vs. used thing, I would get a new Cayman S in a heartbeat. My Dad has owned 6 different C5's since '97, to include the Z06. They're definitely fast cars, but I still think the Porsche is on another level.
However, there is a brand new C6 Z06 at the house (back in SC) that I haven't gotten a shot at driving yet

911's are always much quicker than their HP numbers would suggest. The S with 350 hp, I believe, traps faster than a regular C6. I would bet that the "normal" 911 is good for 108-109 mph in the 1/4th.

58 grand is the "starting" MSRP for the Cayman, but you're looking at closer to 70 grand with Porsche pricing for some decent options.
Don't forget those $300 floormats and $400 emblems
Porsche is consistently ranked one of the WORST manufacturers in terms of quality according to JD Powers. Maybe most of this comes from the boxster and cayenne, idk, but Porsche is no pinnacle of quality by any means. Contrary to popular belief by foreign car lovers, Chevy is consistantly in the top 1/3 of brand quality.
Unless your really intent on climbing one more rung on the social ladder, or are really concerned about driving a car with pedigree, than my vote is the vette.

Okay here,
I have both an Evo 8 and a 997 S. My Evo is OEM stock, totally a virgin by any definitions.
The Porsche is more powerful, nifty quick. You go to 125mph+ without even realizing it. Handling is superb, altough a bit scarry for you who are not used to a bit of oversteer (rear engine). The steer precision actually feels a bit duller than the Evo.
