Buyers remorse???
So, I bought my 06 MR 2 weeks ago. I simply love the car. Pushing 30, wife is 36, both make good money but Miami homes are so dang expensive. The 3 kids don't leave room to play either. So I drop $37K on this car...I know...Some may argue a rip off.
So now I get a little sick to my stomach knowing that the car payments will be horrible for the next 5 years which I can afford, but with the high end parts for the Evo, attached to a high end price, I won't have money to buy frivolous things.
I know. Something to whine about huh?
I just loved modding my old car. Know that I will chill for a while until the money fairy drops by.
Is it normal to have buyers remorse? Should I be thinking ALREADY of trading it for an older car I can tinker with...That isn't so pricey? Just curious. We have 2 other cars to haul the tikes in. I just needed something to row the gears in on the weekends.

I don't know anyone human that doesn't have second thoughts after spending this much money. I'm sure the wife needs a car also, but what do you mean other cars to haul the kids. My Evo is my car! Even my vacation car. It was bought because it is so much fun to drive. So when "I" drive, this is what I choose to drive. Sell the other car and pay down the loan. Save some finance costs and get it paid off sooner.
It appears on the forum that this model makes tons of power with minimal bolt-ons, so you should be able to satisfy your lust for speed pretty cheap.

Thanks bro. It is weird, we have 3 cars. We kind of need at LEAST 2. She has an Expedition because an 8 year old, 5 year old and 3 month old needs to have some room! Plus she works full time and has her own business part time. BLAH! It is crappy because we work in the same area of the city but I go into work at 5am and she goes in at 10am. So no chance to carpool! My other car is an Explorer. That is paid off but it is my haul the kids/take crap around/everything else car.
So it is kind of a need! I know I know...Excuses suck. I am just like WOW with this purchase. A little shocking to the whole family but everyone is happy. Thanks for the pick-me-up.

O.K. Try this. You work hard, and unless you are from another planet, every day at work is not a lot of laughs, (maybe a few). The trip to and from work involves a large group who are both visually and mentally challenged...so for me at least, I drive with patience and a little bit of forgiveness, after all, the mentally challenged need a break, but I still LOVE the on ramps (even if I have to lay back a little to get some room). And I REALLY look forward to the end of the day and the WEEKEND!! My mental health is neccessary for the sake of the wife and family. I come home with a smile on my face every day. That's got to be worth something!
You don't buy fun, expensive cars if it comes ANYWHERE NEAR being an issue of $$$ for you. If you even have to look at your bank balance before you do stuff to your car or pay the payments, your remorse is warranted.

you will get to the point where driving/modding/working on your evo will be the only thing frivilous that you want to do. then you will spend all your time with it, and your wife will probably end up leaving you. then none of it matters anymore. good luck.
Man, I think you did the right thing. You should reward yourself for working hard. You can enjoy the heck out of it for 5 years, 'cause then you have to start saving for college funds. If you would have waited, you probably wouldn't have ever gotten it. I say you have to do things like this while you can, because you may never have the chance again.
I just turned 30 myself and I bought an '06 IX MR. I was kind of having buyer's remorse since I traded in my VW Touareg, which is a very luxurious SUV with adjustable air suspension and all the trimmings. To top it off, my friend just bought an '06 BMW 330i for about the same price of the MR. He visited for a weekend, and I spend the whole time in his 330i with his Nav system and silky smooth Inline-6 engine. The whole time I was thinking that I should have bought a BMW.
Then he went home and I took my Evo out for a drive and felt the boost. I prompted forgot about the Beemer.
The Evo IX is one car I'm probably going to keep to my grave. It's the last Evo with the venerable cast iron 4G63 engine. I'm modding her, but I'm keeping ALL the stock parts in case I ever want to restore her to her original beauty. I think the Evos are going to be the 1957 Chevy's of our generation. They don't sell very many of them and with people blowing up their engines and crashing them, it makes them even more rare.
Buyer's remorse? Yeah, I had that too. The cure for that is boost.

Good or bad choice - no judgment. Practical - YES. You purchased a car that fits the functional needs of your family. You want speed/fun etc... Your kids need 4 doors and your wife has a ride better than that of the Expedition IMHO and a safe car for her loved ones. Great decision. The next best option to satisfy all those needs will run you 15k plus more, so I think you made a good investment. The "Competitors" don't hold as high a resale value, so more money in your pocket later. No need to mod (at least to the naked eye/ear) and your wife will probably further respect the dicision.
I tip my hat.
I tip my hat.
That's why I bought my Evo Rs! Its not my daily driver but rather a fun toy to mod, and drive a few times a week. At less then $375 a month for 4 years its hard to beat. Sure its got no power windows or locks but it still has all the power and handling.
I feel the same way, I thought that I should have waited until I finished up school and such. I am so broke now, but then again I always keep buying stuff for my car, maybe thats why I am broke??
But yea, I had that buyer's remorse, thought about selling it or trading it in for a cheaper car that I would already pay off just like then. Then all of my money would be going straight for mods, not for stupid interest and payments.

Lets see here....An AWD car pushing 300hp, Recaro seats, brembo breaks, 0-60 in 4.8 seconds......36 grand. Japanese reliablity.
A ripoff?......uh, hell no.
The EVO is the best bang for the buck AWD car out there on the market. You may have buyers remorse, but not because of the value of the EVO. A V6 loaded up Toyota Camry is 32 grand. The new 286 hp VW passat is 35 grand w/ AWD. The German cars are 10-15 grand more with the same power.
25 bones barely gets you a decent new car these days.
And modding cars can be a very expensive proposition for a lot of people, so that's not really a way to save money for anybody. And it all depends what level of "tinkering" you want to do.
People have sunk 10-15 grand into their cars tuning them, and they'll never get the money back on resale.
Cars are a hobby, just like anything else in life. Do what you can afford with your extra money.

You know, I had the same remorse when my wife decided to quit her job shortly after I bought my 03, and I'm glad I stuck to making the payments as well making every other end meet. Then again, I'm much younger than you are and don't have 3 kids. All is well though, she got another job and I've now paid off healthy chunk of the loan knowing I can pay off a 6 year loan in 2 - 2.5 years...
