I was wondering if I wanted to pick up a clean low mileage 2G GS-T/GSX that was crank walk free and as a precaution, do an immediate 6 bolt block swap, if I should count on being crank walk free. I understand there is a certain build date of the car/motor to make it a 6 bolt however I have always loved the look of the car and there is nothing wrong with 4G63 modability. As far as I knew crank walk was the only major issue with the 2G Eclipse.
Well, the 7-bolt is on all DSMs from 92.5+. The later 2gs 97+ were are supposed to be less susceptible to cw than any other. If you're going to do a 6-bolt swap immediatly, what difference does it make?
I'd say, go for the later years and just test drive the car... check for symptoms and see for yourself. I don't think the 'fear' of a potential cw would stop me from buying an otherwise sound automobile... in fact, it hasn't... twice.
