"Here’s proof that Mitsubishi is planning to evolutionarily develop their existing Pajero off-roader rather than building a new model from scratch. Taken just outside the legendary German Nürburgring, our exclusive spy-shots show what’s to become of the next-generation Pajero, scheduled for a launch at the 2007 Detroit Motor Show. It’s going to be more than the usual facelift – but won’t be a complete new model either. While the whole front will be revised, modifications at the rear will be limited to new taillights, a mid-mounted spare-wheel on the rear door and a new skirt and bumper. Today’s characteristic rear wheel arch will be toned down to a narrower layout giving the car a more modern overall look.

Though adapted to the EURO 4 emission regulation, all engines will be left unchanged, allowing European buyers to choose between the 3.5-litre V6 GDI petrol engine with 200 bhp and the 3.2-litre 160-bhp turbodiesel. Japanese customers will again get one more motor to choose from – the 3.0-litre turbodiesel with 115 bhp. Buyers in the U.S. will get the choice between two petrol V6s only: the above mentioned 3.5-litre GDI plus a 3.8-litre V6 developing 218 bhp."

The Pajero was all new in 2001, so its only 5 years old, and the unibody chassis is still very capable off-road. Mitsubishi will probably uprgade the ACTIVE TRAC 4WD system.

Are you kidding...the pajero is the king of Cross Country rally...its like the Evo of SUVs...Check out the site below...I was able to drive my own Pajero when i was deployed to Iraq...even though it wasnt the beefed up version...it was a blast to drive...

Hmm, a year ago I would have thought that the Pajero would fail miserably since it lacks the HP to compete in a market where high-power SUVs like the SRT-8 and what not are used as marketing tools.

With gas prices rising rapidly though, it may have a chance. But most likely it will get steamrolled by the likes of Highlanders and fugly Muranos.

200hp for such a big SUV is seriously underpowered. even a rav4 has 269hp and weights a lot less... and no diesel for the US... wont do any good for mitsu...

Thanks AzBlackEvo8...I can't find any parts right now lol, and they're as of now trying to develop an intake for it..anyways, as Alan678 says, the Pajero/Montero is the king of the Cross Country, claiming so many wins in the grueling Dakar Rally, it is definetely underrated imo, and yes it is underpowered. The outgoing one has a 3.8L V6, that makes 215hp and struggles to move the 4700lb suv, and it's not even loaded with passengers or cargo yet. But still, inside it's a luxury liner awashed in leather and soft materials. Lmao they should make the Pajero Evolution into a production vehicle, it's like a cross between an Evo and a Pajero...it would be soo fun to drive..
