Picked up a new toy!
Lately I've been contemplating picking up a new car to replace/compliment the Evo. Finally made the plunge today, and here's my new toy. It's a black 2005 C6 Corvette with 4,900 miles on it. The dealer will put on 3M clear bra and spray on Simoniz protectant tomorrow, and once the paperwork and oil change is done I'll probably pick her up the day after tomorrow.
I thought I would write a little about the car and about my shopping process. I must have looked at around 7 cars altogether, test-driving each one to make a comparison. In the end my main choices were the CTS-V, S4 and M3. The SLK55 AMG was out of my budget, and I didn't quite like the C55.
Firstly, the CTS-V. It was very luxurious and offered lots of power/torque. I loved the space the car offered but there was one thing I hated on that car: the notchy shifter!! It would block me out of 2nd gear sometimes due to a feature that is supposed to help you "save gas." All in all, a fast and comfortable sedan that needs a new tranny.
The S4 was nice, but it just didn't quite get my juices flowing. It had decent power and was rather comfortable but the new body style just didn't appeal to me very much. The last car on my list was the M3, which a few of my friends have. It's a great car but I was hesitant to buy one since the new body style 3-coupe is due for release soon. Besides, I felt I wanted something more of a weekend warrior. Plus, the stereo system on the M3 sucks.
So, here I am, with a new 2005 C6 Corvette. I bought a used one since it was in such a good condition and at a very reasonable price. I pay cash for my cars, which is one of the reasons I bought an Evo instead of an S4, so there was no point in stretching the budget to buy a new one.
I thought I'd give a short review of the car. The first thing I noticed about the C6 was the torque. No need to rev the engine, it moves at almost any RPMs. The ride is firm but not overly harsh, and the brakes were excellent as well. The steering did not offer as much feedback as the M3 or Evo, but did not feel "loose" like the CTS-V. The interior offered more space than I expected, and both the climate controls and navigation were easy to use.
Now to the cons. The one thing I disliked about the car was the seat. It offered almost ZERO lateral support, and I could feel myself sliding around the seat. Secondly, while the interior has improved tremendously, it's still too "plastic" feeling when compared to European cars. The lack of steering feedback should be addressed as well.
I know there are some here that don't appreciate the Corvettes, but I liked the car. I may get more "valet status" with a M3, but that's not why I buy cars for. This will be my first American car, and I'm sure it's not going to be trouble-free like a Honda. But to me, it's a great car and really put a smile to my face, and that's all that matters to me!
I'll take some more pics when I pick up the car. In the meantime I have a tough decision to make: should I keep the Evo or trade it in for something more comfortable? Decisions, decisions.

Yeah man i work for chevy and my dads has owned about 20 vettes. the only ones with problems is the c4 they are ****in garbage period. i have worked on ceveral c5s with over 150k on them and they run perfect. A c6 is even better. if you take care of it you will NEVER have any problems.
Excellent choice.
I had considered a C6 or C5 Z06. Can't blame you a bit, your Vette is
a top end monster and very mod friendly if you choose to do so.
Curious about how much it wa$.

Doesn't the C6 have the lock out feature as well? My friend's C5 does the same thing. It just slides into 4th and skips 2 & 3 if the RPM is high enough and you aren't on the gas. If you really want to go to 2nd, either shift earlier or get on the gas more...

The Vette forums have how tos for bypassing that.
