Cheap power (mazdaspeed 3)

Performance keeps getting cheaper all the time!
(now if it was only RWD, and a coupe for that price!)
should blow away all the new civics.

Observant Autoblog reader Matt Miller informed us that Mazda has quietly released the pricing of its forthcoming MazdaSpeed3 on the car's website. The 250-hp wonder wagon will start at $22,800 for the Sport model and feature a six-speed manual transmission, stability and traction control, 18-inch wheels, four-wheel ABS, and more. The Sport model will be topped by the Grand Touring, which begins at $24,515 and adds automatic on/off headlights, rain-sensing wipers, Xenon HID headlights, LED rear combination taillights, leather bolsters on its black cloth seats, a premium BOSE sound system and available DVD navigation. We'd say Mazda's asking a fair price for a four-door hatchwagon that can reach sixty in under six seconds and return nearly 30 mpg on the highway.

Hmm, the Mazdaspeed 6 was supposed to be quite fast as well but looked what happened to that idea. Engine problems caused many cars to lose power suddenly, so I guess we have to see if Mazdaspeed 3 can do a little better.

I like the MazdaSpeed 3, if weight is kept down it should be pretty quick. FWD sucks, but hey for the price it's a great bang for the buck performance wise. Also the interior looks beautiful. I just hope the owners don't let the power get to their heads like SRT-4 owners.

It better. I can jump out of my car and run faster than a Civic.

Damn that's nice for 23k you get a six speed, traction control, and ABS. I wonder how long it takes for people to start hating on it because it's cheap and quick. 280 ft/lbs sounds nice too. Interior is also nice, good job mazda.

I disagree, best bang for the buck as far as performance goes is an EVO IX RS. Why do I say that, well let's see the EVO IX RS can be had for well under $30,000, mine was selling for $25,999 and it is capable of out performing cars stock for stock that cost twice as much.

The SRT-4 is yes a bargain, but it isn't capable of out performing stock for stock cars that cost $5,000 more. So how is the SRT-4 a better bang for the buck than a EVO IX RS or Corvette C6 Z06. Yes the SRT-4 is cheap, but that doesn't mean it's the best bang for the buck.

^^^ bang for the buck can be relative...
If its about performance then I'd say IX RS.
If its about a car with A/C, performance, partial power windows, and other amenities.. then I'd say SRT4.

^ Again I'd still disagree and have to say the EVO IX GSR. Do not get cheap price mixed up with bang for the buck. The IX GSR can out perform like I said cars that cost twice as much, and this has been proven. The IX GSR costs roughly 10,000 or so more than a SRT-4 and can the SRT-4 out perform the IX GSR? Can the SRT-4 stock for stock, beat any EVO on any road course or any drag strip? How about the S2000, or the 350Z, stock for stock can the FWD beat any of these cars on a road course. How about the STI, is the SRT-4 also a better performance car than that, is the SRT-4 even a better all around performance car than the WRX?

And also bang for the buck usually always means performance, but since you throw other things into the mix I had to answer and still don't find the SRT-4 the best bang for the buck in anything. And actually in my opinion the best bang for the buck (which means performance) is actually the Corvette C6 Z06.

Too bad this thread isn't about bang for the buck. It's about the MS3.

Back on topic.

I think it will be pretty cool little car.

Well the title of the thread is Cheap power, is it not?

I am very interested in just how quick this Mazdaspeed 3 is, I wouldn't be surprised if it is nearly as quick as the Mazdaspeed 6. It sucks though that it is FWD, but it's cool though, because I don't think Mazda intended on this car to be consider a ***** out cheap sports car, but more of a kick *** street ride for a very affordable price and FWD is just fine in that department.

B/c of the FWD, the car will really be limited to 1/4 and 0-60, but like the SRT-4, will probably do exceptionally well with rolling speed increases.
