So what is the consensus on the new Cobalt SS?
Its not desperate. Some guy posts that the SS has beaten the Evo around "many" famous tracks. I understand "many" to mean more then one. Proof was asked for. I've not heard of more then one and I didn't buy my Evo to leave it stock, Nsomniacs response sounds valid and far from desperate to me.
Here's the proof you wanted.

However, it will still mean talking about a modded Cobalt which is still hypocritcal when people talk about modded Evos and it still doesn't mean the Cobalt SS has beaten the Evo X on "many" venues and comparos.
I don't really see how it's modded when the parts are engineered, made, tested, sold and installed by GM with the factory warranty in tact. They even say the kit doesn't affect driveability in any way. So far there have been 2 test featuring the SS and X. In one, the X was a tenth or two faster. In the other, the SS
Nice Try.
I would shave the SS badges and go with some 17" cheapo rims once the tires are worn out. Assuming they fit, but they should since I believe it runs the same brakes as the Evos did. Black out the tailpipe, magic marker the SS off the seats and spray the IC and the brembos black too. I want a total sleeper. Like a new school GNX. Screw it, I am going to go test drive it and see what they will offer for trade in.
Jesus, a factory installed NLS feature? Now that above all else is astounding. The concept of NLS itself I would think would make manufacturers not offer it. Damn, still wrapping my head around that.
I also find it humerous that they say the kit "pulls all performance possible" out of the motor and it only adds 30 hp. LAME. I'll bet you could get way more than that and still be CARB legal.
Other tuners have got a lot more out of it, but there really isn't a reason for GM to try and get more. They'll probably sell every kit they make and keeping the power reasonably "low" will help prevent any chance of people damaging stuff.
I think I am going to do it. I just need to find one with the right options and no miles
The rumor is that they stopped production until June
If I get it, I will take it to the track and see how I do vs my evo

I can't get over the 2 antenna thing, 2! They airburush out the am/fm antenna in a lot of the marketing pics, because they know how bad it looks. Absolute dumbest thing I have ever seen.
A guy around my way has a silver turbo one with hard pipes, intake, exhaust, etc. And Honestly the thing runs pretty hard! I say go for it...It might not be the best looking car in the whole world, but it performs greeaat!
$10k into the SS and it'll EASILY beat the X in everything except 60' time.
In case you guys don't remember, GM Performance built the old Cobalt SS that was supercharged for that TV show on Speed. Then, at one of the first Time Attacks here in the US, it beat EVERYTHING. Including Skyline GTRs, and whatever else showed up that day.
I don't get why some of you are so stuck on the Evo being a 'superior' car. Yes, it's a very good car, but the track numbers have shown that stock for stock, the SS is just as fast. If you want to talk about modding, then I think using the price difference between the two cars is a fair amount to allow for modding the SS, at which point it will destroy the Evo.
So you want to put $5k into the Evo? Put another $5k into the SS and I bet it'll still be faster. You're not going to reach the point of the Evo eclipsing the SS in performance, dollar for dollar, probably until you get around $50k-$60k, or more.
