eh not rly that fast but ford probe is pretty fun car plus you can fit anything in it.. ANYTHING!

 

^^Probe GT is very capable at the track too...my old one passed a few evo's in it's day. Hell it fit a B18 GSR motor in the hatch for 350 miles back to my house for a friends car and still got 28mpg. Pretty decent car.

 

Not a chance in hell you're finding an srt-4 for $5k unless there's something major wrong with it. I'd say you're off by at least 4$4k

 

I'll agree with most of these guys, get a clean 1G GSX.

 

1G awd dsm ftw. Hands down. King of cheap speed.

Or swap an Omni or Horizon. Holy parts bin upgrades batman.

5k should be enough for a full build.

 

I picked up my 2G GSX for $1,000 the engine was knocking, but I found another 1G awd on craigslist for $800 that wasnt running. I dropped the engine from the 1G into the 2G and then sold the 1G rolling shell for $800. Usually you wont find a 2G for less than 2,000 I was very persistent and just kept looking till I found one in my price range.

EDIT: Also, a car I have not seen mentioned here is the Mazda MX-3 GS (somewhat hard to find)

They come with a 1.8L V6 but you can straight drop in a 2.5L V6 from a japan millenia or MX-6

I did this swap for my father-in-laws MX3 EVERYTHING was straight bolt-up. I did the swap in under a day. we bought the car for $800 and the JDM engine for $1,000. It has so much Power and Torque its insane, the engine is rated for 200 horse and in that car the torque is unreal, the thing just flies.

 

Check out the 944's also. cheap RWD is fun!

what about a mk3 supra. i use to have one and it was awesome. had targa top and the turbo model has 236hp. It finally blew up on me at 193k. original motor

 

I have looked for a car in this description as well.
Most of the cars I would consider have been said:
E36 with higher milage, 1g, MK3, Galant VR4, SRT4 can be had if you find the right deal...
Also I have seen a couple S4's go for 5-5500...

 

i know someone who bought a talon for like 2K running just minor issues and he's running 11.5 as of this weekend, he might be spraying though but its still on a 16G and a crappy set-up.

16G has lots of potential.

Hell, 14B's have gone 11's.

 

1G dsm for sure $2000 car and $3000 in mods= low 11sec car

 

Nonsense, get a DSM. Find a 1G AWD talon or eclipse. You can make them quick for pretty cheap, sleeper like.
