Goodbye EVO :(
Traded in my EVO IX last weekend for a E92 M3. I've wanted an EVO and a M3 since I was a kid, so after owning 2 different EVOs over the last 5 years, I decided time for a change. I'm happy with my decision with the M3 though, but I felt like I should say something (for the EVOs sake)....not really like a funeral lol but you get it. I hope if anyone on this forum buys her, or whoever buys her for that matter, they treat her real nice
That is all. Oh, and if you live in NC and see a black M3 with NC license plate "BAMF M3", that's me
AMERICA!
EDIT (some people were curious about comparing the 2 cars):
As for performance goes, the Evo was approximately 450whp while the M3 (which is modded) is probably putting down around 400whp. The M3 is 350 lbs heavier also. The Evo was definitely faster in straight line and corners, but the M3 power is obviously much more linear (my tune allows me to shift at 8600rpms, a few hundred more than the Evo, even with GSC springs and S2's). I like to be able to break the rear tires loose in 1-3rd gear with ease, it's a bit more fun (even though the Evo could do it in 1st and 2nd sometimes). Also shifting while accelerating easily breaks the tires loose which is fun. Around the corners, I don't feel nearly as confident taking the same corners as the Evo while speeding, due to the RWD and being heavier. Also the steering in the Evo was more precise than the M3. The M3 has electronic assisted steering that adjusts with speed which I don't like, versus the purely mechanical steering of the Evo. The M3 does however, let the driver feel very connected to the road and I know how to make the car go exactly where I want it to, just like the Evo. Cruising on the highway at 80mph in 7th gear (I have the dual clutch transmission...more on that in a minute) puts me at roughly 3000rmps, versus the Evo somewhere around 3800rpms. Gas mileage sucks, I get like 12mpg city and 18 highway...but I didn't buy the M3 for gas savings lol. The notchy transmission of the Evo is missed, along with just having a manual transmission in general. However, the dual clutch transmission in the M3 is terrific. Shifts are under .08 seconds which is just mind boggling. Also rev matching downshifting with the paddles is awesome and sounds terrific with my exhaust setup (I ONLY use paddles, I never use the Drivelogic. Drivelogic is where the computer decides when to shift). Although I DO miss heel-toeing in the Evo. The DCT tranny in the M3 is literally a manual transmission fitted with a hydraulic clutch, it is in no way shape or form an automatic transmission, due to popular belief. A new DCT also costs $12,000 versus the Evo $3500 lol. The suspension feels just as stiff as the Evo and road quality feels the same. Bumps are felt just like in the Evo, which I think is nice. Also having cruise control is FTW haha.
Build quality of the M3 is obviously superior to the Evo. There are just so many more features too. I miss the Recaro seats, but the M3 seats are nice too. I have the limited leather, with cloth middle portion of the seats, which is awesome because the leather gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I have the non-navigation version, I don't like the way the navigation sits in the dash, I think it looks cheesy, and it looks MUCH cleaner than with the Navi in my opinion. The M3 turns wayyyy more heads than the Evo did, and I get talked to about my car almost wherever I go...even at stoplights people roll their windows down and talk to me lol. Plus when I take chicks out in the M3 I feel so much more baller than with the Evo
The paint quality on the M3 is absolutely amazing. The car just looks so much nicer washed and waxed than the Evo did. Making sure to wash and wax every week does get somewhat annoying, but I guess that's what happens when you buy an M car.
The only thing I regret about selling the Evo (besides losing a lot of money in mods) is the pure performance of the car. Sure, it's not as baller as the M3, but the Evo was just a full "race" car compared to the M3. I wasn't scared to push it 100% to the limits and I knew the car, engine, tranny, etc inside and out. I also didn't mind taking the Evo to the track and stuff. I won't be racing the M3 ever, but if I ever become rich, I will be turning it into a track car...so lets hope I get rich or win the lottery. Eventually, I want to get my hands on a low mileage CT9A Evo again, and build it from ground up, but that's gonna be a while. Honestly, since going to the dark side, I have found a new interest in European cars (M3, M5, RS4, AMG C63, etc). I've been looking at M5's too, maybe wanting to pick one up in a few years to add to the M3 in my garage. I've also been thinking about a B6/B7 Audi S4 as a daily also. I'm deploying again within the next year (OPSEC reasons I can't say exactly when or how long) so the M3 will be in the hands of my friend to watch over her. But that should be my last deployment as long as I don't re-enlist again, and that means I'll never have to leave my baby ever again.
Other than the performance of the Evo, I'm extremely happy with my purchase and haven't looked back. I was sad when I got into the Evo the day before I traded it, but when I pulled into the dealership and saw the M3 sitting there all washed and waxed waiting for me, all my doubts went out the window and I never looked back. If any of you Evo guys are thinking about buying BMW M car, go ahead and test drive one, and I swear you'll never look back just as I did. I do get the urge to buy another Evo, every time I see a CT9A one driving around, but then I just look down at my M steering wheel with the hand stiched M colors and that urge goes away. As I said before, I would like to buy another 06 Evo and track it out, but for now I'll be buying European performance for a while. I hope this helps all who were curious and feel free to ask more specific questions! I've owned 2 different Evo's in the last 5 years and the M for maybe 4 months now, but I think I've had it long enough to have a solid comparison.

Funny you mention that. When I traded my Evo 8 for the 9, I said I was going to leave the 9 completely stock. The next week I bought exhaust, intake and cams lol.
Before I bought it and after I had decided to start looking for an M3, I said it was going to be stock. But it's got Dinan full catless exhaust (header back), Dinan underdrive pulley, Dinan CF intake and Dinan "Stage 2" tune...
Going with Dinan parts is good because BMW will still honor your factory warranty. It's kind of like Shelby and Ford, SPT and Subaru, etc etc etc. Except Dinan is just an aftermarket company (like AMS or CBRD) but for whatever reason if the BMW dealer is a Dinan dealer, they honor your BMW warranty. Kind of weird when I was looking into it but I called the dealer and they said it was legit. But hey, I'm not complaining.
Stock. That's a funny word when referring to cars. I don't think I'll ever own a car that isn't modified at least a little bit. I guess you can't stop once you start. It's like Pringles.
I'll try to get some pics up here soon. It's goodbye EVO, not EVOM.

I'm at work right now, but I'll post some comparisons when I get back. And I've seriously been slacking with pics...been super busy. But here's the dealer's website for my car, they got some pics on there. Will update ASAP with things I like and don't like compared to the Evo.
