do u own the lancer ex turbo? do u know if it is awd? i never heard anything this close to an evo before in the states other than the las vegas mitsu convention thing and EI
Not in the U.S.
Sorry about that.
The Lancer EX Turbo is actually from 1980 and was never sold in the U.S.
Several European countries got them but I never actually owned one. We owned a Mitsubishi Sapporo Turbo, which was powered by the same 4G63T as the Lancer EX Turbo.
Here's a link to some pics and specs for the U.K. version:

Enjoy!

VR-4
Good point regading the Galant VR-4, which is the direct predecessor of the EVO. They still sell those in Japan in the new body style with a 2.5 liter V6 twin-turbo
Actually the engine in the Eclipse GSX is not quite the same. I'm not sure of the details, but I think the way it is mounted is different.
About the VR-4. The reason
retired the car from WRC was its size and weight. The EVO is now at about the same size and weight, hence the pending decision by
to change to the upcoming Colt (based on the CZ3 compact concept).
I'm confident we will still get several more model years of EVO's, but the WRC will see a Colt WRC rather than a Lancer WRC within the next 2 to 3 years.

Good take Mk8. I myself really wish they'd keep the Evo a 4 door platform but as the base model Cedia gets bigger (to keep up with the upsizing of it's competition) means the Evo gets bigger. Besides, the CZ3 looks way to much like the Focus and the 206. Personally, I lust after the V6 VR-4's myself...
The GSX engine and drivetrain is very similar to EVO I-III 4G63. The "mounted different" part should be refer to the EVO IV-VII 4G63, which the engine was turned 180 degree.
I think the Lancer EVO's demise will mainly be limited to the WRC. This is too much of a halo car for
to phase out anytime soon.Though not as attractive or practical, a Colt Evolution might prove to be a performer given the potential power/weight ratio (if
decides to put the 4G63T in it).Just think, a car weghing about the sme as a Civic Si with 250 to 280 hp
Now, if they can just change the grill...
