New Cadillac CT6 will have a CADILLAC V8

AWD

A twin turbo hot-side, Cadillac Exclusive engine. Comes in the two different horsepower versions, although it seems like there isn't a great spread between the two. It's paired to the 10spd auto, so turbo lag/dropoff between shifts should be minimal, if any.

Forged aluminum rods? (another article from Autoweek said forged steel con rods, so I don't know)

How do they manage the heat from such a configuration - yes, I'm ignorant.

Some specs:
4.2-liter preliminary specs:
  • Block: 90-degree V with five cross-bolted main bearing caps; sand-cast aluminum with pressed-in iron cylinder liners
  • Bore/stroke: 3.39 in. x 3.35 in./86 mm x 90.2 mm
  • Crankshaft: Forged steel
  • Pistons: High-strength hypereutectic aluminum with friction-reducing polymer skirt coating
  • Rods: Forged aluminum with floating wrist pins
  • Compression ratio: 9.8:1
  • Turbochargers: Two low-inertia twin scroll with electronically controlled wastegates and water-to-air intercooling

GMauthority has some more drivetrain details, although I think the wording is somewhat vague or proofing needed?

Glad to see GM is finally stepping into more modern times. Can't wait to see how this engine holds up.

Love this quote from R & T "The turbos will be running 20 lbs of boost apiece, shoving air into cylinders with a 9.8:1 compression ratio"
Uuuuh??, so 40 pounds of boost, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That torque number looks nice.

The more I thought about it, maybe they phrased it that way since the turbos are in the "V" of the engine.
If there are two totally separate intake tracts (including into each head with two separate throttle bodies),
then maybe it's not as bad as I first thought.

I would guess it would still be mostly the same if both turbo's fed one intake manifold. Its the same amount of air going into the same amount of engine

Yes, was trying to be nice and give an out for the R & T journalist. Most likely, they
didn't even know that what they wrote sounds weird LOL!!!

How long do the modern, (highest quality - I assume in this case) oem gas-engine turbos last?
