VW's Phaeton!!
Ok, I'm a car guy. Plain and simple. I like every car in production or at least something about it. For example a Toyota Echo. Sure it's slow and ugly but it gets 49mpg and it's a fun car to drive, feels like a go cart and the radio is kick a$$. If I was in collage and on a budget the Echo would be my car :lol: {thumbup}
But I wound not want to drive an Echo {thumbup} Witch brings me to my subject the VW Phaeton. It’s a very fine automobile. I would say with almost the mastic feel of Jaguar, Bentley or Rolls Royce. It’s a hand built car and you can tell by the quality of the interior and the fit and finish of the body, doors and hood/trunk. It’s like a finely stitched glove or a suit tailor made for you. Witch IMHO I would say is more attractive then what BMW or MB offers in the market place. That’s why I mention Jaguar, Bentley and RR as a comparison. Nothing is cheap in this car it has almost the perfect interior expect the steering wheel. Looks like it would be a better suited for a nice VW Jetta with leather then a 67K luxury saloon with more wood and leather then a top of the line Jaguar. Honestly the interior of any car you notice the steering first and the rest of the car goes with the wheel. But this not the case in the Phaeton, after seeing the hideous steering wheel you look ahead and see the lovely coronagraph type gauge cluster with a small rectangular LCD display. When you site back and look at the rest of the dash you are just in ah. Finely done, everything it perfect detail, wood all over the dash with an analog clock and a large screen display for navigation/HVAC and radio controls. The leather is also topnotch soft supporting seating and tight stitching. It cares onto the door handle and ends at the dash. The back seat is huge, large enough to put 3 full size sky boots on the foot area of each side with a bit of room to spare. Also nifty creature comfort features like rear automatic sun screen and manual rear side sun screens. I find most modern luxury cars a bit complex with all the gadgets and gizmos but the Phaeton is well thought out. Now there is a learning curve but no ware near the complexity of BMWs I drive system. Witch makes it more attractive. The car just does not look like a 67K car meant to compete with BMW/MB or the brit cars in production. It’s blan… No bling No pazzas not ritzy. PLAIN. Just Plain and that’s not a bad thing but if you have the means for such fine car might as well turn heads when you drive past people. Oh and the number one worst thing about the Phaeton and arguably one of the best things about it is that it’s made by Volkswagen. Now why the hell is Lyublinsky writing about a Phaeton? Well my very good friend Danny works at bayside vw in queens and I went on Sunday to visit him and look at the Phaeton that he has been raving about for the last 3months. I got a good ½ hour with the car and I’m in love and I’m also pissed off at the same time. What do you guys think about the Phaeton????? |
vw will never sell the 67k phaeton, cause the serivce blows. i mean i had a tough time getting decent service with my old beetle. the places were always packed, and no one knew what they were doing or talking about. i think the car looks great, but vw has to change EVERYTHING that they do before they think they can sell a 67k car. i was unhappy with the service on my 20k car. best of luck to them, but come on. they own or have their foot in with so many other companies, why not stick to what they do well, and let the lux companies sell phaetons.
|
well they gave me a 24 hr test drive, the one with the w12 motor. that by far was the nicest
car i had ever driven. i cant see spending 67,000 for a vw but it was nice. i would buy the audi a8L instead. |
67K has nothing to do with being the "people's car" {thumbdwn}

I agree I mother had a 98 cabrio with 10year/1000 warrenty and the service is no ware near what I have gotten from BMW but my understanding is if you own a Phaeton it's a diffrent ball game and they should have just made it the new A8L I agree. Or like Maybach Acura Lexus, a new luxuary divitions but VW has audi so the phaeton just does not make sense coming from VW. |

My brother owns a Phaeton. It's a beautiful car and one of the best road trip cars that I've ever driven. It's well appointed and extremely comfortable. The exterior has also grown on me quite a bit. His service experience so far has been excellent. When he needs to have any type of service performed on the car the dealership picks the car up from his house or office and leaves him another Phaeton or a V8 Toureg as a loaner. I used to own a 2001 S500 and I have to admit that I like the Phaeton better. Is VW going to have a difficult time selling a $70k car? Hell yes. The secret is to buy one used. My brother paid $55,000 for his Phaeton with 4k miles on it. The original sticker price was just over $70k. For $70k I'd probably buy the Audi A8L, but the Phaeton is worth a look and can be bought for a big discount.

The W12 starts at $100,800. Ridiculous. I'd rather buy an Audi RS6 and buy an Evo with the change.

VW/Audi made stupid move with this one. A few years ago they decided to push VW as the luxury brand and make the push for Audi to be the "sporty" brand. They obviously got this mixed up. You already have penetration in the luxury name with Audi, wtf not brand the Phaeton as an audi?
People who buy 70k+ cars don't buy them because they are built well/ect they buy them to say "Hey look at me!" VW does not say that |
Very interesting;the toughts here are almost like on the german forum.
Nearly nobody wants to pay over 60k for a Volkswagen and i think the same thing.:D |

maybe you can see through that, but Joe Yuppie with 70k in his pocket generally will not. |
