Evo I-III's legalized for the U.S.

Is this possible? Are there any legalized early evo's in the U.S.?

EvoDan2004 Jul 30, 2006 12:34 AM

yes because i have evo's 1 thru 8

johnnyRacer Jul 30, 2006 12:40 AM

Is this sarcasm or are you THAT gullible? I'll go easy on you, to answer your question there's probably a few first gen evos (that's evos 1,2 & 3) that have been imported here in the US and are driven legally on the streets. It all depends on which state you are in and how good the importer is when handling the paper work. On the east coast at least, there's at least two TME (Tommi Mackinen Edition) 6s that have been imported and legalized as well as a Evo 7. Do some research and check your state's laws and regulations on vehicle importation and registration.

i hear these threads alot most common thing you will hear is "can i import a skyline?" you can do anything you want as long as you have money put it that way.

I remember a couple years back the first Evo I had ever seen was a yellow VII at a dealership down the road from my uncle's house in New Hampshire when I went to visit him. It was before the VIII came out and it was gorgeous. I've never seen another VII since.

There are no legalized Evo I-III here, nor will there ever be.
Now there are some "Mirages" that happen to have a 4G63 and AWD replacement :)

Thanx, for the info guys. I'll check my state (IL) importation laws. Anything else?

lancer2show Jul 30, 2006 09:59 AM

you can import a car but you can only use it on a track or car shows because how would you get the car registered? it will never be street legal.

Oscypek1007 Jul 30, 2006 10:20 AM

no it can be street legal. there are ways around it. i saw some guy with an evo 1 or 2 not sure with florida plates and was driving on the street

johnnyRacer Jul 30, 2006 10:48 AM

I heard some were swapping the vin's with US Mirage's.

evo_z Jul 30, 2006 12:02 PM

There's seems to be alot of 'gray' imports in Florida. There are at least two importers there that I'm aware who claim that they can import any car and be made street legal. The VIN swapping is a work around but IT IS illegal, they catch you, they'll take the car and smash it. Make no mistake though that in most cases, importing a used vehicle and trying to make it legal can be more expensive than buying a US equivalent.

Another thing to consider is insurance. Let say you buy a used a evo 3 for $10,000 total (that's car, fees, taxes etc etc) and pass it off as a mirage. If you get into an accident, the insurance company WILL total the car since to them it's a mirage that's only worth less than $5000. You can go with a specialty insurance company, that's if you're made of money.

So let me yank you from your daydreaming kid (I'm assuming you're a kid, pardon me if I'm mistaken) just finish college, get a good job, work hard and just buy yourself an USDM evo. That way you'll actually have money to take care of the car properly and actually keep it.

I've seen a white r32 gtr driving around in Northbrook. I'm sure its possible to have a legalized imported evo..

johnnyRacer Jul 30, 2006 02:00 PM
