"New" Member to my Mitsu family

Well I finally did it. I went over to my friends house, pulled it out of the garage, had my friend tow me back to my house Ace Ventura style as I could not see out the window. But I now have a 1987 Starion Turbo (flat body) sitting in my driveway! :D Now for the bad news...the turbo is siezed, and the engine is pretty much shot, as my friend said the last time it was running ( last year) it was on 3 cylinders. I've been going back and forth now with either rebuilding the 2.6 or doing the 4G63 conversion for about half a year now, and I'm leaning towards the 4G63. What do you guys think? Opinions greatly appreciated {thumbup} Hopefully I can get some pics up tomorrow.

I love that car.... I want one sooo bad. 4g63 swap would be insane.. If you got the dough. do it!

I got the $ saved up. Unfortunately it was my Xbox 360/Mac computer/ emergency w/e funds. But I think a 4G63T powered Starion is well worth the trade off.

- Edit - Spring break might have to be cut alittle short too :crap: haha

The trade-offs would be worth it for a sicc Starion!

Maybe a drift-setup?

Heres a couple quick pics with my 04 Ralliart. Sry if the pics are posted wrong, first time putting up images on a forum. Just say the word and I'll do my best to fix them if they are. {thumbup}

Well, day 2 of working on it yielded some good results! I removed what was left of that front spoiler that was cracked and mostly gone. The main focus of the day was trying to get that driver side window up ( no battery in the car ) and as we later found out, a window switch that doesnt work. Eventually we spliced into the wiring for the switch and jumped it straight from my car's battery after trying numerous other methods. Unconventional? Maybe, but theres an ongoing joke that me and my friends never use the right tools for the job.

Tomorrow I think I'm going to start patching up the 2 areas of rust and maybe a few other things after I get done with my classes. And after that, it's time to find an engine!

Just wondering, can anyone tell me if there are any big advantages/disadvantages between the 4G63 from the 1st geneclipe /2nd gen eclipse/ and Evo 4G63's? I know the Evo one makes more power, but Im curious as to reliability and capability and all of that. Is there a certain year(s) that I should be looking for?

4g63 SWAP FTW! {thumbup}

There aren't too many differences between a DSM 4g63 and an EVO 4g63. The EVO engines (obviously) are more modern... one example being the incorporation of Mitsu's MIVEC technology. The DSM 4g63's are solid too, but like any motor they have their downsides. The DSM 4g63's can be divided into 6-bolt and 7-bolt. The 6-bolt 4g63 engines are found in DSMs (Eclipse GST/GSX, Eagle Talon TSi, Plymouth Laser RST, Mitsu Galant VR4) built from 92-92.5, and the 7-bolt 4g63 engines can be found in DSMs built from 92.5-99. The 6-bolt engines are widely regarded as the better of the two, as the 7-bolt motors have a tendency to develop crankwalk. People are split on why these motors "walk", but one of the main beliefs is its due to a faulty thrust bearing. With your swap, your definitely going to want to go with a 6-bolt 4g63. Its not always easy to find a low mileage 6-bolt stateside, so many people resort to buying an imported JDM 6-bolt for their swap. Hope this information proves helpful, and good luck with the Starion!

Ok guys. So now I've had the car for a couple weeks. And I've been going over my budget for this thing. And it looks like a 4g63T swap just isn't in the cards. The buschur conversion kit is so tempting, but the price just for the buschur parts, and then a trans on top of that, and a decent 4g63...it just all added up too fast. So, after talking to some people and doing some online research. It's time to make a bit of a frankenstein out of her. I'm going to be swapping in a Toyota 1JZ (most likely the twin turbo). It's been done before, it from what I'm to understand it's not that much harder than the 4G63. I would have liked to stay Mitsubishi, but this is going to be way less expensive and it appears alot more powerful. So thats the new plan. I'll keep you informed as it progresses.
