Another reason why kids shouldn't be given fast cars.

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - A teenager charged with driving 142 mph along a four-lane divided highway said he was speeding home so his parents wouldn't be mad at him for being late, police said.
Brandon D. Raap, 16, faces speeding and misdemeanor reckless driving charges and could have his license suspended, police said.
Porter County sheriff's deputies stopped Raap along a rural stretch of U.S. 30 at 12:40 a.m. Saturday after a radar gun clocked his 2004 Subaru Impreza going almost 90 mph faster than the posted 55 mph limit, police said.
It might be the fastest speed ever recorded on the northwestern Indiana county's roads, said Porter County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tim Emmons.
"Most people's cars won't go that fast," he said.
Raap told police he was late getting home and didn't want his parents to be angry, Deputy John Brubaker said in his report. Raap told Brubaker he didn't have a curfew but is usually home by midnight.
Brubaker didn't arrest Raap, who had a valid Colorado license, but told him to drive straight home and call him within an hour. Raap's mother, Cindy Raap, called instead and Brubaker told her what happened.
The Associated Press left a message with Raap's parents at their home in Valparaiso seeking comment. They declined to comment when contacted by the Post-Tribune of Merrillville.
"Kids sort of have tunnel vision," Emmons said. "They're so concerned with not getting yelled at or grounded, they place other people's lives in jeopardy."
The highway has two lanes in each direction, divided by a median, and traffic is usually light that time of night, Emmons said.

Getting yelled at for being late? More like an *ss beating for doing 90 mph over the speed limit!

THIS made news. They sure don't have much going on in Indiana.:rolleyes: On an empty rural highway in the middle of the night, I'm sure people go that fast quite often...weather it's safe or not.

Man this is BS! Just because he was 16 they didn't arrest him but if you're a 18 year old then you're old enough now to face justice for your actions....right.

They should have arrested him , impounded his car, and cut his license card in half in front of him, I would have done that for sure if I were that police officer.

Kids these days need to learn that a car is not a toy and that driving recklessly has is consequences. I hope his parents take the kid's car, sell it, and buy him a geo metro or something similar...or a least a good beating.

He was definately committing a felony going over 100. Maybe the cops are just nicer in the midwest. :confused:

You can see a video of some dude (doesn't specify age) in an SRT-4 getting pulled over doing 140+ on his way home from the track; on streetfire.

He has a harness bar w/ camera mounted to it, and he is taping his runs down the 1/4 mile at the track (atco i think), but just leaves it on for his ride home. The cop is like "camera?" and the dude is like, "it's for taping runs at the track i was just at" cops like "oh" and it's recording the whole time, :lol: .

Anyway, they show him the gun, that says over 140, and they let him go with like 90 in a 60, so it doesn't become a criminal charge.

Damn, sucks to be him.

Was it an STi or WRX? I'm curious because I'm not sure if WRXs can go that fast.

I've seen them go 145mph, don't ask how I know. This was in an 02' bug eyes btw.

to me that is just plain ignorance... if my kid were to ever get pulled over for going that fast and i had to call, it would be to tell the officer to come get me because i just earned going to jail for child abuse...

this kids DL should be suspended indefinitly and he should do some kind of jail time, juvenile detetion center in this case...
