My Poor Man's Supra build
Now that the evo is gone, i traded my 1996SR20 240sx straight up for this 1996 Lexus SC300 5-speed. It already had TT Supra brakes and seats and Stance coilovers. The best thing about it is it's paid for and the insurance is about 1/3 of what the evo cost.

I have an R154 (much stronger 5-speed)transmission that will go in to replace the W58 (much weaker 5-speed). The engine has 200K miles on it but if the numbers on it are clean i'll just keep it for the build. Things already purchased include an ebay manifold, almost brand new GTK-850 Turbonetics BB turbo, AEM EMS plug-n-play w/ all sensors, Front-facing intake manifold. Most of the expensive stuff is out of the way, I also have a Titan fuel rail/injectors I'll be picking up on the cheap tomorrow. And the best thing is that 2JZGEs are incredibly cheap so if one blows up a replacement is only a couple hundred bucks. Using the TT headgasket will yield a 9.2:1 compression ratio as opposed to the 2JZGTE's 8.5 so we'll see if the spool/efficiency increases due to that. The GTK-850 is a 72mm turbo which is a little bigger than I anticipated but I couldn't turn down the deal I got. The spool characteristics are more akin to a Dbb 67mm and should be good for 850WHP on the race gas but i'll most likely stick with pump gas on stock cams for awhile, hoping for about 550WHP-ish on moderate boost. |
Car looks good so far, and I believe anything is possible at this point from the way you're so confident about the future.

i like these cars, there is much win here. My friend hasa 95 sc300 (auto :() which we just installed supra brakes on not too long ago. Aristo swap is waiting to be done.
Damn that sc is clean though, ah I see, florida car, no wonder. |
Had a friend with a single turbo one, traded it and has never stop complaining about he shouldn't have.
They can be impressively quick for their size. |
thanks for the comments guys. Actually with the TT seats instead of stock seats it only weighs about 100 lbs more than my old evo. Of course I'll have to worry about traction now (hopefully)
Guess we'll see if the engine holds out! |
350z wheels look real nice on there!
|
i love this. probably my next build or an s2k.
|
not bad bro, only thing i can see is its gonna be costly, if your not doing your own work on it. good luck with it. very clean body

to be honest the only thing I still need is to accumulate a proper fuel system and an intercooler/piping. I've only spent $3500 so far on:
R154 5-speed from a soarer Exhaust manifold/dump tube/intake pipe/downpipe Engine gasket kit with 1.3MM HG Nearly new GTK-850 Turbonetics Turbo Nearly new AEM 30-1100 w/ all sensors Front-facing intake manifold w/ Q45 TB I've been getting solid deals on everything and I hope to continue that trend with the fuel system. Also getting a BOV/Wastegate used on the cheap, both Tial. I think coming from an evo though it's kind of hard to consider this a pricey build. We'll see what happens though, I may be back in this thread talking about the "money pit" before I know it. |
nice find man... a clean soarer is hard to find.
|
haha im doing the same thing i was looking for a MKIV shell to put the motor and trans i built in but i think ill just pick up a SC . Good luck{thumbup}
