Updated pictures with TE37's on page 3!

Just some pictures of my stock 996 C2 I picked up a couple of weeks ago. Not sure how long it's going to stay stock though...

WOW..B-E-A-U-TIFUL...what are the specs on this lovely machine? What are your future plans with it?

0100 Jun 6, 2010 03:09 PM

Thanks! Not doing much to it as I want to keep it on the street and not turn it into a track rat, as much as I want to. Will do some mods though.

It's a mk1 996 C2, black leather, sunroof, manual, with LSD.

Nice pick up! Congrats on the car! I say you put some Volks on it :D

JFuego777 Jun 6, 2010 09:24 PM

Clean car, I for one like the stock wheels. To me, aftermarket wheels don't belong on a Porsche. I'd keep it wingless too.

0100 Jun 7, 2010 05:18 AM

^+1 I was going to get a wing right off the bat, but the more I look at the car the more I like the wingless look. Even though one does come up at 75mph.

Congratulations on your purchase. Join rennlist, its a very resourseful forum with great members. Has your 996 had the RMS issue addressed, or has it not even be an issue? Im assuming this is a 3.4L not the 3.6L , how do you like it so far?

 I got this all the time from non Porsche forums when I'd talk about my car.

The RMS issue was a MAJOR issue, but it's rarer than most people think. Even so, replacing it semi-regularly is no big deal (compared to not replacing it and the problem that can occur)

I tracked the **** out of mine and only did oil changes every 10k (more often than recommended, it's what the shop I took it to recommended [they set up tons of race Porsches/Audis]). I never worried about the RMS problem, it was at 60k when I sold it, no RMS issues at all.

It's like the motor issues with the GR STi/WRX or the TC issues with the Evo (or tranny issues with the MR). Sure there were issues, and they were a big deal. But it wasn't like EVERY car had the issue.

What year is yours? Mine had loads of stupid issues but I think that was just bad luck other than the coolant bottle (which has [original factory one, that is] really stupid seams in it that get leaks pretty easily, got it replaced with a newer edition Porsche OEM one and never had problems with it again though.)

JDMevoBOOST Jun 7, 2010 03:43 PM

Argh me likes the newer style headlights.

0100 Jun 7, 2010 05:58 PM

Personally I don't like any 996 lights, mkI or mkII. 993's, 911's, or 997's got it right. Litronics make it look much cleaner but I am not dropping 1k on a used set of lights, have better things to do with 1k.

Been a member on rennlist since 2001, good stuff. Had a bunch of 944's and 951's in the past, but this is my first 911. Aware of the IMS and RMS issues. It really is blown out of proportion but real. This is the fix.

0100 Jun 9, 2010 06:23 PM

Just got done installing the stance coilovers. Went in really easy, just had to make a spacer for the rear swaybar mount(last pic). More pictures to come..., but for now I am hitting the road to test these out!

Haha! It's a deal then, if I am ever heading to maryland I am PMing you.

Some pictures I snapped last night. I had just got it off the jack stands in these pictures, so the front hadn't settled yet. I checked this AM and it's a 1/2 inch lower in the front so looks better. I will get better pictures, but really need to wait for the new wheels!

Disregard the sunken battleship, I need like 90mm spacers. LOL

Are those wheels not 18s? They look smaller now that you've dropped it... maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks on me.

SRToad4 Jun 10, 2010 10:12 AM

I don't know what it is about the early 2000 Porsche's, but they're not attractive at all to me. The rear of the car is ok, but the front looks so old/foggy/outdated. The 95/96 style's look amazing with the frog eyes, and sharp edges, but the 2000 Porsche's headlights kill the whole look of the car.

That pic you posted that shows the whole front end just looks like an old boxster to me :(

Those are 17s. They need massive spacers and painted black to hide how small they are. Just ordered new wheels so won't be doing that.

The TE's are expensive. The run $4k for the set. I am running 19x8.5 / 19x11 with 245/295.

High_PSI Jan 5, 2011 03:38 PM

Good job man great car. Looks like you have Turbo wheels on it. Beware the demon of snap oversteer.

Haha yeah snap oversteer fun!

I did manage to tame it down though with my 245/295 tire setup.

R/TErnie Jan 12, 2011 09:51 AM

Will the NA engines and gear boxes allow you to boost them and survive?

You could but the cost will be extremely expensive not to mention the room is VERY small and then the tuning, just enjoy it as it is, minor boltons maybe. It is hard to improve these cars. keep it NA.

UT_Evo Jan 12, 2011 12:02 PM

Need to clear out the headlights and the side markers now.

FDwarrior Jan 18, 2011 08:54 PM

Nice. You don't often see te37's on a porsche.

Like High PSI said, definitely keep these NA. They sell supercharger kits but they are way overpriced and not worth it at all. Put your money into suspension pieces. If you want boost, get a 996tt.

Other than suspension and wheels/tires I am stock, and trust me, this is fun on the back roads and hwy runs.

Yeah, unfortunately mine are the kind that can't be cleared out. I was going to go with some litronics, but they are way too much. Rather put that money into the suspension.

The nice thing about the modern 911s with the multi-link rear is that snap oversteer is largely a thing of the past for all but the most ham-fisted of drivers.
