Yes they did. Yamaha also worked on the Lexus LFA and the Nismo 370z. I think there's a lot more automotive involvement than people realize. Definitely good stuff coming out of the Yamaha shop.

They worked on the 2000GT but not in the way you think. They were responsible for the interior wood trim which was manufactured out of their instruments division out of piano wood material. Yamaha started out as an instrument company then branched out into industrial/transportation market decades later. They hadn't gotten quite up to speed by the 2000GT's time for mechanical involvement.

We also shouldn't forget that Yamaha at one point produced Formula 1 engines which powered a lot of independent teams, I want to say in the early to mid 90s. If I recall correctly they worked with Renault on them.
