STi's Limits?

When I speak of limits I am specifically speaking of the engine limits. I keep hearing from the Evo guys that because our motors are new we have no idea how much horsepower they can handle. We all know that their motors are incredibly durable-6 or 7 hundred hp easy-but what about ours? The new 2.5l is different from the 2.2 or even the 2.0. Can anyone with engineering experience or anyone capable of an educated response ease my and our disconcerning dillema please? :confused:

Vishnu did 282 whp on their dyno, (more like 350whp on dynojet) and he said the STi's engine will produce more torque than EVO, but nobody tested the limits yet, so you wont find a clear answer..... Some said the engine blows above 350whp, but then again people blame it on the tuning (i think this happened to someone on NASIOC)

The cylinder liners are REALLY thin. The block itself will be limited to around 400whp, even once the engine managment comes out.

engine internals are not very strong.....

stock turbo cant handle anything above 16psi

it can handle over 16psi stock {thumbup}

also wrong {thumbdwn} dont mean to be rude but

"a person running a stock EJ257(USDM STi) shortblock with STi version 7 heads in a WRX dynoed 427 hp and 377 ft lbs of torque at the wheels. The heads effectively raise compression to 9.0:1"

its not a matter of strength, its a matter of tuning

good point , but if i was really into modding the sti Would worry me. i'd take the evo to modify highly

Limits not yet known. Block can take more than 400 whp. Turbo can go above 16 psi. However, the stock turbo IS small and to go for huge power, would need to be replaced. With some better engine management, we ought to see some much larger numbers.

Personally, I like fair power without lag...very responsive and crisp handling.

^^ i agree

but if u go high power u usually go with a bigger turbo anyways dont u? {thumbup}

i believe the sti's engine is like pandoras box, once opened hell will be unleashed
