I've been there 7 times so far with my Japanese wife, daughter', to see the in-laws, and ex-students there...I went to one of the HKS major stores there, and others! I always go to a different Mitsubishi Dealership, sometimes, they will give you promotional items! Whenever I go to a high performance shop, I bring them a USA car event t-shirt! It could be a drag racing event, a car show, anything like that! They are really happy to receive that, and most likely, give you something in return! One thing you will learn while you are there...Lol, you give someone a gift ("Omiogay), it's traditional to give something back! So, if I were you, bring things from the USA, because YOU WILL receive gifts, and it's rude to be given something, and not return the favor! Also, check out 'Autobacks'! It's like Pep Boys of high performance parts: wheels, tires, seats, T-shirts, accessories, etc.! I highly recommend you try a traditional Inn! The ones with a "tatami mat" floor(s). Go to the local shrines, and Akihabra (blocks of electronic stores, and new technologies!)

The Golden Temple is a "sight for sore eyes"! It is literally covered in a real gold covering! Your jaw will drop! You are NOT allowed in, but you can get close, with a huge moat surrounding it, filled with huge Japanese Koi (Goldfish)! And on your way there (1 block away), you can see (up close!) 1,000year old original buildings! If you like history, there's a TON there! It's good to get a book with vocabulary, so you can impress the natives! They love to see a "Gaigin" (Outsider) try to speak their language! They appreciate that...Shinjuku, is also very cool! This is where teenagers, and adults wear American 1950's clothes, greased hair and dance! If you need anymore help, just let me know! have a great time, and take a lot of videos/photos! Post them!

Check yahoo japan, Upgarage, and Rakuten for hard to find car parts you might want that you can bring back with you in your luggage. Have them shipped to your hotel while you are there.

This site is a good portal to Japan car part auctions http://isicar.mine.nu/

Upgarage for sure, get some awesome used parts while you are there. Don't know if you are a fan of Miyazaki films, but the Ghibli Museum was awesome to visit. http://www.ghibli-museum.jp/en/ I also stopped by a Nismo shop while there, was nice to look at, but I didn't get anything (too expensive...). There are a ton of tours and stuff for American tourists, it's worth taking one of the bus tours that takes you around everywhere. Tokyo Disney if you want to go there as well. I also love the food, so anywhere with good food :)

How about the mitsubishi museum?

s2000 Sep 6, 2016 05:14 PM

Been to Japan 3 times. I second Up Garage. It's basically a second hand store for aftermarket parts. I've seen some Recaro SRDs for $175 each. You'll have a hard time shipping as they do not ship. They have tons of used parts. The Up Garage is like an Autozone here in the US.

Honda Welcome Plaza / Showroom, right outside Ayotama-Itchome station http://www.9tro.com/features/people-...-welcome-plaza with free ASIMO robot demo and photo-op (check its website for days and times of shows). this and other technological showrooms: http://www.japan-guide.jp/lets_enjoy...echnology.html

Mario Carting in Japan?

If you're interested in arcade an initial D, I would try going to Odaiba

Odaiba, the artificial island of entertainment which has huge red iconic ferris wheel, Mega Web the Toyota Showroom http://www.megaweb.gr.jp/, the largest Gundam statue and Gundam-themed entertainment complex in the world) https://www.gotokyo.org/en/tourists/...ap/odaiba.html , and many other various complexes.

7-11 are amazing.

BASSANOVA Ramen at Shin-Daita Station -- if you've heard of the Ramen Burger...A coworker's friend Keizo Shimamoto is the inventor of the original and first Ramen Burger, which is now a big deal (at least in LA and NYC). http://www.goramen.com

If you're interested in more information let me know. I have a ton of other stuff, recommendations, food places, travel (mobile wifi). etc.

Had a blast, got some Defi gauges at upgarage and just browsed. Japan is a trip well worth taking if you get the chance. Thank you for all the suggestions
