the article sounds like they're talking about a slightly less boring regular Lancer, not an Evo... so who cares? they might get like a 100 more sales... I don't see Mitsu Automotive surviving in the US unless the bring back the evo or something new thats as exciting. They don't have Toyota's boring family car pedigree to make it in the regular car segment, so they need to get attention with something exciting. Making a slightly better standard Lancer and single mom pricing isn't gonna do it.

then again, he did mention something about a "stand out product" so maybe there is something to look forward to

but I just skimmed the article, am I wrong?

There is a 2017 lancer. If it never went away, how is it coming back?

A 'comeback' can mean a number of things.

From the article "If you think more high performance compact sedan, then the icon obviously is the Lancer.” Car and Driver attests the 2017 Lancer “an inexpensive interior and less-than-thrilling driving chops,” but when I ponder that some snarky American car bloggers already might be working on a “Lancer Death Watch” series, Cobee recommends to quickly shelf that idea. Cobee refuses to talk in detail, but he seems to plan a big Lancer comeback."

You kind of have to read between the lines, but the whole article is about bringing Mitsubishi back to success, seemingly around some of its icons. Like the Pajero and Lancer.

Not long ago, Mitsubishi was set on abandoning the sedan segment.

I have no issues with the Evo interior. I just don't really care about interiors that much.

The interview sounds positive. I won't hold my breath but it seems he has an appreciation of some of the history.
