Blown STI's

I was down south in lauderdale to look at an 03 cobra and I stopped by Acardi Subaru just to check out the STI's. I had already been there before when I bought my wrx... THere was a sweet looking silver STI and the owner and the sales guy were talking. Turns out the owner was really cool and he told be he had spent alot of money trying to mod the car but returned it to stock because he was getting CEL's or detonation...etc. Then the sales guy chimes in that there are two blown up STI's in the shop....WTF?

Are the STI's really that prone to breakage?

THe guy did tell me a funny story about a black SRT-4 he ran into in Miami...he said he lined up against the guy and thought he was just going to walk him..turns out the SRT creamed him after the launch. He said the thing just took off...must have been pretty stout

hm. i'd like to see the figures/percentage rates of stis and evos breaking down... i wonder if that's possible?

the stock sti motor does up to 44 degrees of ignition advance.....

thats a ton combined with a big turbo and individuals that either suck at tuning....or just plain ignore ignition retard.....motors get hot and boom....

austin subaru...where i used to work.....has a sti...409whp on stock block....and even did a full open road race.....no problems

the ej257 hasnt been out a year...and people are making big power numbers...and ****ty tuning blows motors.....

the other problem is instead of countering boost creep....peple just slap on an fcd and let it over boost.....on pump gas....=detonate=boom

give em time....the 4g63 has a 13 yr headstart on tuning....
