Maryland Emissions
Maryland Emissions
Kinda shocked that no one has posted anything on this subject. Has anyone had their evo tested in Maryland for emissions? I am currently running a BR TBE catless system. I don't get any error codes but I'm wondering if I would pass emissions. At first glance many of you will say of course not but from what I have heard Maryland does not have a sniffer. I'm looking for someone who has an aftermarket exhaust who has taken emissions. I do have a high flow cat so I can attach that too but I'd prefer toi know if I have to go that far. Please let me know what happened to you. Thanks
I believe you only get the exhaust sniffer if your car is obd1. I have passed emissions in my 02 lancer 3 times and I am catless and dont have a resonator.
The year of your vehicle determines what sort of testing it will undergo. Vehicles from the current two model years are exempt from the first round of testing. There are four varieties of analysis:
On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) Test
* For vehicles of model year 1996 and up and weighing under 8,500 pounds.
* What it does: Skips the tailpipe and exhaust completely and instead links into the vehicle's computer system (if it has one), searching for any sort of inconsistencies relating to the engine. If the Check Engine light blinks on at this point, things may not look so good for passing the test.
IM240 Dynamometer (a.k.a. the Treadmill) Test
* For vehicles of model years 1984 to 1995 and weighing under 8,500 pounds.
* What it does: Vehicle is set on rollers to simulate real driving while accumulating and sampling the exhaust in various situations.
Idle Test
* For vehicles of model years 1977 to 1983 and large trucks weighing up to 26,000 pounds.
* What it does: Emissions are pondered via computer while the vehicle sits idling.
Gas Cap Pressure and Leak Check
* For all vehicles.
* What it does: Makes sure that the cap is functioning properly and seals like it should.

Is your car lowered? I told them my car was too low to drive over the rollers. They looked under it a few times and told me to drive around and come inside. Didn't have to pay the fee and got a 2 year waiver.
Neither person that looked under my car noticed that I wasn't running any cats... One guy did compliment the sound of my supercharger though lol.

I am lowered. Here is the link to the emissions web site.

i kept throwing the 02 code and erased it right before i pulled into the emissions station, they hook up thier computer to my car and they said thier computer couldnt read my car and told me to bring it back march 11th for them to do it again.....wish me luck. Oh and i have a 3in TBE catless but i passed 2 years ago no problem!
one of the only reasons they check under the car is if it goes on the rollers....They check to make sure you have no wires hanging down. I passed Emissions twice in Md with 2 different set ups. As long as you dont have a cel codes stored your good.....
