Evo's in Utah part 2
hey rob what kind of duty cycle do you have @ 25psi? do you have a fpr or are you using the stock one?
are you still interested in the bg trans stuff? the only one i can get is the bg2 which is synthetic version of the first kind it's kinda spendy like 50 bucks for 3 quarts

Zack i've never actually run 25psi. At 22psi on pump fuel between 10.5:1 and 10.9:1 I see an average of 80%, with the occassional jump to 90% duty cycle, and I believe that I have seen as high as 95% duty cycle. I currently am using the stock FPR just because I don't have an adapter for my fuel rail for my aeromotive FPR. (these are all numbers on 40psi base fuel pressure, so if you bumped the base fuel pressure, it would obviously bring the numbers down)
As far as the trann fluid, i'll probably have you get me some, but I want to do a bit or reading up on the bg2 first. I'm currently running penzoil synchromesh, and it seems to work pretty good, what are you're thought on it???

i'm using gm syncromesh(same as the penzoil i think)and i like that the best i tried bg on my eclipse & it worked ok but i found that i liked the syncromesh better but alot of the local dsmer's use bg so it must be pretty good. p-jon from provo with the eclipse & kim's old talon just bought some from me so i can tell you how he likes it in a week or so!
i think i'm going to get 660's because i don't plan to run more than 20psi on pump gas & probably 25 to 27psi on race gas so with a fpr i think i could get away with it just fine!
rob what are your thoughts on what to rev to with a completely stock bottom end do you think 7500 would be alright? with these 272's i never want to shift.
by the way after all the dyno talk i think i'm going to dyno my car on monday @ your favorite place! this way i can see what kind of numbers i need to make to get to 120mph traps!!!!!!!!

I noticed that the Evo has alot less pull up top. Is 272's the most popular duration to get? I have 264's in my MR2 and i noticed a huge difference on the freeway, but i am scared that i will have idling problems with a duration that big.
Oh hey Rowland!
Hey rob was the shifting in your car notchy before you changed your transmission fluid? Mine is kind of notchy, but i am thinking of putting the Pennzoil Synchro Mesh like yourself. I used Pennzoil SM in my 2 when the trans was going to Shi*z, and it fixed it for a while until i started beating up on it.
How mush fluid do i need to buy? I have never owned a AWD car before so i dont know how much more fluid i need for the Transfer Case.

My tranny still feels a little notchy, but yes changing the tranny fluid helps. You'll need three quarts for the transmission(it is actually a little less than three quarts, i'd have to check the manual) and like a half a quart for the transfer case. You'll want to use a gl-5 grade oil for the transfer case, and from what my research tells me either gm-synchro mesh (seems to be a favorite of a lot of tuners, and most importantly Zach
)or the BG oils. I hve read that a lot of people prefer to stay away from the synthetic, but after a road trip to vegas and a pretty in depth conversation with a certain dsm freak, I think that it might just be a myth that the organic stuff is actually better. Just make sure it's a GL-4 grade oil that you use in the transmission.
Zach, let me know what you end up dynoing, i'm pretty excited to see what your car does. What did you trap when you ran that 13.0??? Also, what was your 60ft, and your eighth mile times?
I think you should be fine going to 7500rpm. If you look at how its going to affect the motor, the valvtrain will be fine (mine actually feels strongest right around 7500rpm) the compression loads aren't going to change that much, so basically the only thing that is going to recieve added stress would be the rods do to higher tensile loads. Being that you're a mechanic you may as well buy some rod bolts and head studs, and spin it to 8000
. That would be pretty cheap insurance in my book.
Let me know how it turns out. Have you raced John (spoolin) on pump gas when you're running high boost??

Zach do you guys carry the GM tranny oil?? I looked at the breakdown between it and the penzoil, and they seem really close to the same thing, but apparently the penzoil is a bit more viscous.
RALLY THE TROOPS FOR A STi AND EVO MEET
FASHION PLACE MALL PARKING LOT NEXT TO FOOD COURT ENTRANCE FRIDAY 11-19-04 AT 10PM. TELL ANYONE THAT HAS AN STi OR EVO.
THIS IS NOT A STREET RACING MEET!! AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FASHION PLACE MALL!!
I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT THE PLAN IS BUT WE CAN SORT IT OUT THEN. E-MAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

Nope, there is a seal between the two of them, the stub shaft goes throught the transmission and into the transfercase. Search the board for transmission fluid changes there is a good write up on it with pictures and everything. It is a pretty straight forward change. It takes maybe 10-15 min to do.
rob i can get the gm tranny fluid within a couple hrs on a normal day!
as for your other question i raced mike when i was on race & he was on pump and i walked away from him fairly decent! but then i watched john destroy mike so i think it's safe to say he would mop my ***!!!!!!!!!! he does run 28psi on pump gas so that's just not fair.......
