Roadracing in IL/Midwest

I plan to auto-x this year but I would like to get into road racing as well. Is there any forums, sites, or any info on how I can get started into the scene? I want to get into some performance driving training classes too.

For autocross I recommend the Evolution School (no, not named for the Evo). Info can be found at your SCCA region or more quickly online at http://autocross.com/evolution/.

I don't see where you're located, but the Chicago region has an AWESOME school as well for autocross. Their site is here: http://www.scca-chicago.com/solo/index.html

Generalized autocross info is here: http://www.autocross.com/

Road racing is better done with a group I understand so finding out who your local BMW or Porsche group is and joining them is a good idea. Blackhawk Farms near the Wisconsin border (just over it?) is the best local I believe.

This and a good search engine should get you started. Good luck and let us know what you find and how you do!

Another place to look is groups like Speedseekers. Many tracks host club events; sometimes you cand find events by checking the track schedules. I've found two of the clubs I run with locally that way.

Is your car blue? I've see a blue evo in the south loop occasionally.

Silver with full tints and 7 tails and hks catback. Honk if you see me. You wont see many like mine in the southside but I do see a lot of 03's popping up around the southside. I guess people are buying them cheap now that the prices are low for a used.

Also are you going to the ice series tomorrow?

No, I didn't go. I've had family in town -- family that doesn't like driving swiftly.

I agree. Speedseekers puts on a good event at Road America twice a year. Check out: http://www.speedseekers.com/ It would be a 2 or 3 hour drive from Chicago.

later,
Curt

No, but the Lincoln's Trail Porsche Club put on 3 autocrosses in Peoria this summer. I'm an SCCA member in the Central Division and the only real operational sports car club is in Champaign County. The one in Peoria's not quite got it's **** together since they lost their only autocross venue.

Get to Chicago Region: excellent venue, excellent events, excellent people! Find out about their class in early spring and SIGN UP!

If you meet Mark Hirt (blue Celica GT) tell him an ex-Celica-now-Evo owner recommended them!

Good luck and HAVE FUN!

Cool I definitely will. I already got my apps all ready to be mailed out. Im really interested into getting some driving school time before everything else, but the evolution one couldnt find a venue in the IL area so I guess I will try elseware.

Keep an eye out for my threads this summer, too. I'll be posting info and links for a number of the upcoming track events this summer. I'm expecting to have info for open dates at RA, MAM, Gingerman, BIR, etc.

What kind of lead time should I give for events? I've used about 2 weeks in the past (so the threads don't get too burried) but that's probably a bit short.
