Uh.. I dont know if I should admit that I might try a set of these, but some of the STI crowd is raving about them and for $129 for fronts they are almost too cheap not to try them. Across the pond they are the "official" pad of the Subaru Challenge... whatever that means.

I've pretty much always despised EBC but I dont know if I can help myself. Someone talk me out of it.

Any of you tried them? Thanks

never used the yellow stuff but in my old eclipse I used the red stuff and also the green stuff and have no complaints

 

By the way. These are for "track pads only".

These pads totally suck. Cold or hot, it doesnt matter. Tried them on a friends STI and they were worse than the Hawk HP+ he started with. I really cant describe how terrible they are.

Well, since they are advertised as a "track" pad they should at least have the stopping power of a street pad. They are basically like a Hawk HP+ but with no cold bite. Definately not what I would consider a "track" pad.

We swapped them onto the STI a couple of days ago, and after thinking they just sucked because they were not getting up to operating temp on the street we took them out for a beating last night with the temp gun in hand. They still sucked for what both of us consider and know as a track pad. Neither of us think they are as good as the Hawk HP+ that came off the car.

On the bright side.... they dont make any noise.

I had green stuff pads on my old s4 and they absolutely destroyed the rotors. However, Calvin, who used to work for us had the reds on his MSP and they were great. Give 'em a try and tell us how they go!

 

I dont know if I'll be able to talk him into any more pads that end the in word "stuff".

As for myself, I think I'll stick to my Carbotechs.

I enjoy the ferodos, even though they can get a bid wooden towards the end of their life. I sure my rotors may have something to do with that as well.

 

Sounds exactly like a "track" pad. Why are you even trying a track pad on the street? HP+ compared to a "track" pad is no comparison at all. Track pads don't have cold bite.

I had greenstuff pads on my old car and they tore up my rotors too within about a month

 

We do a load of track days with our cars. Hallett is about 1.5 hours away. We wanted to see if these pads performed as advertised since they are half the price of all the other track pads. There are plenty of wide open industrial areas with long runs here to use as makeshift testing and bedding areas. This is where we tested the pads to see what they were like once they got up to temp (temp guns). And once up to what they advertise as the prime temperature range for the pads, they were NO BETTER than the HP+ that he (the STI owner) was using for double duty (street/track). We have a lot of testing equipment at our disposal that most people who dont own a shop do not have readily available. Hell we even have a dyno to play with, so rest assured that these tests were well thought out and the data was properly collected. We even had cones set up for braking tests.

I nor Eddie (STI) use track pads on the street on a daily basis. The point I am trying to make here is that this EBC "track pad" is no better than an HP+ when the EBC is heated up to prime operating temp. Seeing as how the EBC is no better when hot than a regular street pad, you would think they may have a little cold bite as a trade off. So in conclusion, they are no good when hot and no good when cold and a Hawk HP+ makes a better track pad than the Yellowstuff even though the HP+ is not a track pad. Do not buy them if you are used to something like an XP9... which is my normal track day pad.

Damn so much for that low cost track pad option, at least I didn't have to waste any money to find out they are crap though
