Where to find a helmet?

I am tired of mooching off of other people whenever I'm at an AutoX event or drag event. I really want to get a nice helmet for myself, however I also know it's not a good idea to buy a helmet without trying them on first. I also don't really want to go over $300 if I can help it. I'm not sure whether a full-face helmet is necessary, or if an open face helmet would be better for the type of racing I plan to do. Any help into this, as to places I could look at for an SA rated helmet (that's what's needed at the track I go to) or brands to look at (I can't afford the high end stuff) would really be appreciated. Thanks guys

Tyler

for that budget you should look into a GForce or a low end BEll helmet.

find their sites and they should have authorized dealer list there.

I have an HFC Dot/Snell open face motorcycle helmet that I have been using in numerous HPDE events over the last 2 1/2 years. It's comfortable, and no event organizer has ever complained about it. It cost me $70 at a local motorcycle shop. You can spend a lot more, I suppose. SCCA is warning against using a closed face helmet if your car is air-bag equipped.

http://www.apexperformance.net/ has good deals on helmets. They come with free helmet bags as well. I picked up a Bell M2 for $320 shipped with a helmet bag. They also have Pyrotect helmets that are SA rated with free bags and free shipping for around $250.
