US EVO8 rear brakes dragging

Just thought I'd share this in case others experienced the same thing. Yesterday, after a very casual stop, the rear brakes on my EVO8 started dragging. That is, when I started moving again, a HORRIBLE screeching sound was emitted from the rear of the car. I stopped a few times and got out to look around, but didn't see anything unusual. I just couldn't really drive the car in that condition. I could feel the drag in the car too. I almost thought it might have been the rear diff acting up. But again, nothing looked out of place visually. The car was just making a horrible noise everytime I tried to move forward. FWIW, rolling backwards did not appear to cause the same noise, but I can't be sure as I didn't roll backwards all that far or fast.

I eventually got tired of screwing around with it, so I popped a quick first gear hop and whatever it was (presumably rear brakes) broke loose and all was well.

As a follow up to this... This morning on my way to work, I stopped at a stop sign at the bottom of the "mountain". The front brakes sounded like the damn caliper fell off. I'm not talking normal little brake squeel. I'm talking "chunking metal falling off and hitting the wheel" type sound. Not a good sound or feeling in the pedal. I limped along again for a while to see how things developed. It kept making horrible metal rattle sounds until eventually it just went away.

Again, I got out, looked around, checked all the obvious things, but nothing looked out of place. This was also after a very casual stop. I was following behind a moron doing 25mph all the way down, so there was no aggressive beating on the brakes. Hmmmm. First the rear and now the front. Time to pull the pads and see just how many large chunks are missing...

1400 miles on the clock, BTW.

The car is 100% stock. Not even a drop in K&N. I ain't touching this thing beyond the ECU 'til it's out of warranty. I had considered doing a few things to it, but now that it's already starting to show some concerning signs, I'm not touching it.

It does sound like the pistons were sticking for the problems with the rear brakes yesterday. The problem with the fronts this morning, though, are more concerning. Really, it sounded and felt like the time my caliper actually DID fall off in my Eclipse (stupid shop didn't torque the mounting bolts down...this was before I started doing my own work...now I just drop axles; but that's another story entirely).

I haven't been all that hard on the brakes, brake fluid is fine, stock brake lines, and I haven't pulled the pads yet. This happened on the way to work this morning. Once it cleared, I lost motivation for a road side tear down and inspection.

Seriously, have you been hard on the brakes? It could be that the pistons were sticking or that you're simply lacking brake fluid (possibly a leak?). Do you have stock brake hoses?

Have you checked the brakes already? What do the pads look like?
