Ecuflash 1.41 unable to read EVO VIII

Tried to read the ROM off a EVO VIII the other day and I kept getting an error message. I can log with evoscan (v2.6) but ecuflash just would not connect/read the ROM.

The car is imported from the US into Canada and is supposed to have been tuned via ecuflash. Current owner was sent several ROM images from previous owner. I wanted to confirm the content of the ECU before making any modifications.

Has anybody come across any issues like mine with the OpenPort cable?

The cable and ecuflash works fine with Subaru vehicles.

From memory..."An error has occurred, check log file..." It doesn't get past the initialization stage.

Where is the log file? I looked in the ecuflash directory and didn't see anything.

Windows Vista 32bit
I don't have access to vehicle any more. I think it is the same thing that happens when I try to connect to newer CAN-bus Subarus and the timing between turning ignition key to "ON" and hitting the "OK" button is off a bit.
