Question R: How To bleed clutch/brake fluid? Replace or locate the slave and master cylinders?

Symptoms:

Possible Clutch / Brake fluid leak at the front of the car
Clutch pedal has no resistance when force is applied

Possible Cause:

I was in second gear Lancer 08 GTS m/t, rpm'ed to 5500, and disengaged the clutch. Fortunately, i was able to drive home safely for 5 minutes after the excessive revving, but after 2 hours passed, the clutch system failed and I could not shift into gears when attempting to drive.

To the evoluntionm.net forum,

I am a student, who is broke and haunted by the feeling of sport inspired driving on the road. Sadly, i do not have a lot of time, nor understand the difficult and precision skills needed to handle this situation. I hope that the time I have spent on this forum will encourage you to provide the smallest help you can. And for that, let me please thank you for your time.

Is it true when they say that there is no such things as stupid questions? Well, it is also sometimes impolite to ask questions, but i'm just a shameless student inspired by the engineering of vehicles.

1. Is there a online manual that instructs how to correctly bleed a system with dot 3 or 4 brake fluid?
2. How much will it cost to replace the slave or master cylinders? Does this include labor?
3. What are you thoughts about what could be possibly wrong with my Clutch atm?
4. Would there be a warranty for the problem I have described? I have after market parts like a clutch, pully, and sri. would this void the warranty?

If you feel that only an important phone call would be the only way to explain the subject matter, i sure wouldnt mind talking to a more experienced engineer! 6468120922

Check where u parked the car for oil. If not then u might have damaged the clutch release bearing or pressure plate. Doesnt sound like the transmission was damaged.

As for your questions

1) The lancer is dot 4. And yes there should be so look around.
2) At the moment I think only dealers will have cylinders for the lancer, but be prepared for a rip off. Otherwise try send an email to LMB Euroseals. They might have it and are really cheap while also being of the highest quality.
3) Cylinders, pressure plate, clutch release bearing. Hard to tell without checking. Could maybe even be a lose line.
4) Most probably.

Hope that helps. For future reference never launch the lancer past 3500rpm. You could have done even more damage.

So, you have an aftermarket clutch? How many miles on the clutch before this issue happened?

The clutch has around 10,000 miles. The clutch was working fine, there werent any slipping or weird behaviors from the clutch.

i had the same problem i believe, easy fix. follow the clutch line to the front of the transmission. there will be a black plastic T-fitting, with the line going into it, and one end is attached to the transmission, and the other end has a little white knob with a nipple on the end. where the metal line enters this plastic fitting, theres a metal clip shaped kinda like this holding the line in:

http://www.thread-rite.com/pins/pins...irpin_clip.jpg

make sure that clip is in there, and the line is tight. if not, when you push the clutch in (have a friend do it while you watch the T-fitting) you will hear air leaking. what happened to me was, i was stopped in neutral, and i pushed the clutch in and it dropped like nothing because that clip popped off and let all the fluid out of and air into the system. i too have an aftermarket clutch (ACT Stage 3). so i went and got a new clip from auto zone (exactly like the one pictured above) that would fit over where the other clip went, and bent the sides down, so that clip is never coming off again. let me know if this is the problem, and ill let you know how to bleed it.

good luck

P.S. - just curious, what clutch do you have?

Do I have to bleed the fluid after I replace the metal clip to get the air out of the lines? Will I go under the car or under my hood to locate the place for the metal clip? I hope you're not kidding -_-!

Well to see the fitting on the tranny, you obviously have to pop the hood. Also you will need two people to bleed the clutch. Yes, fluid comes after you resecure the clutch line.

How Do i exactly get to the transmission and clutch line area? Is there hydraulics lifts needed? large bolts and screws? OR is it just a plastic cover that I have to remove?

I was told by my mechanic that the slave and master can only be replaced by accessing the clutch... =\

Just wanted to give people an update if they are having the same problem.

The slave and master clutch is replaceable under warranty EVEN though i have an after market clutch ACT. I am so happy, thank you for all the help.

Haha my dealership here is even better. Almost every guy at the dealership has a modded lancer or evo. So when mine comes in they are just like "awesome, we must have a race". Never had one problem with them, always A+ service. Makes me cringe when I read of the dealerships u guys get in the US.
