please do not shift without using the clutch. or if you do, buy an auto. yes, it can be done. yes I have done it numerous times (not in my evo tho). its not faster and unless your a pro rally type driver there really is no need for it.

the same can be said for double clutching while driving. with the invent of synchros there really is no need to do so. again, there are always exceptions, but for a normal driver, esp on the street, no need.

heal/toe shifting, yes work on that. increases fun of driving the car and smoothing braking/gear changes. also helps weight transfer and engine braking in regards to corners. can go into more detail, but main thing is shifting w/o the clutch for the average driver on the street is just asking for trouble.

 

You sure you don't mean no lift shifting, not shifting without the clutch? Where you push in the clutch and shift while you are still WOT?

 

i actually was forced to not use the clutch a couple times, once when I blew my slave cylinder in my friends neighborhood, and another time when I had a broken left ankle, but needed to get myself places. luckily I had already practiced when my car and ankle were fine, so I knew what I was doing for the most part. when you downshift without the clutch, remember you have to take it out of gear, then rev up a bit, and then put it into the lower gear. I know what you are talking about with the no grinding, my lancer did that sometimes as well, and grinded sometimes too. idk why, just did it.....

as said, its not really the best for your tranny, but then again, if you get into a situation where you need to shift without the clutch, its good to know how!

 

I dont shift w.o the clutch regulary, actually i only did it in one situation just to learn how to do it. How bad is it for the tranny and how long would it take until damage was done? Now im worried that my synchros are now unecessaryly worn out due to this.

 

all depends on how well the tranny is built and how godo the parts are, but no matter what it can only really cause harm. dont know exactly how many times you need to be shifting without the clutch or w/e, but if you shift without it "correctly" and smoothly every time, its different then slamming it into the gear and grinding on your way in every time... its better to use the clutch all the time, unless in an emergency like I had to...

 

You wont wear the syncros shifting without a clutch. You will wear the teeth on sliding collars on the main shaft. Just dont do it.

 

Ok so do you guys think that any damage has been done to any internals of my tranny from just one situation? Im just super paranoid about my baby. Lol

 

yeah I am sure you have worn a little off the teeth of the shift collars. Unless you have problems shifting right now then I doubt you did enough harm.

 

ur car is probably ok but avoid shifting without clutch ever again

 

What if you shift without the clutch during low Rpms. For example stop sign to stop sign on a city block.

 

Why the hell wouldn't you just use the clutch? Are you racing for pink slips or something?
