hi , so did updating the tcu to 8631B002_dio30.cff , latest firmware actually solve the grinding issue ? I have just had this grinding noise as well and has been doing some research on how to actually solve this issue but looks like someone mentioned that the grinding sound still happens after updating the software ?

Will get my tuner to have a look on this and update the software.

Same thing here, i've tried updating to 2012-2015 software, it doesn't make any difference, still grinds but doesn't do it when it's below 40 degrees F on cold start. Does it nearly every time I start it when it's warmer. Still makes the two click noise on startup even when one of the TSBs said it would eliminate that.

I wish it wouldn't make the noise, I hope synchros aren't being worn out every time it does it, because that's what it sounds like.

Oh well, I guess there's nothing you can do unless you get a brand new transmission.

My advice to you guys is to shift to "N" before starting the engine, in this way the gearbox will do its shift testing but without the grinding noise.

It works for me, I hope it does for you.

My tech has found a fix but it requires going into the transmission. So far units that come in grinding leave without grinding.

That makes me really curious as to what is causing the noise.

we tested this a while ago (along with tsb etc) on one unit that was only in for the grind with no luck.
we ended up fixing it with the rebuild.
seems it will on some units but others are unaffected by what position they are started in.

I tried a few of these ideas on my transmission grind "which is every single start" and none of them worked
But I did find a way to almost eliminate it and that's starting in neutral and as quick as I can put it into drive,
I must put it into drive as early as possible as its rotating to start, So after 2 compression strokes before the 3rd stroke.
So as it fires on the 3rd you are already in drive
then it goes into 1st gear so must avoid the 5th gear check! "No grind"
Works everytime if I time it right
Hope this helps others please check and reply if it does work for you.
