SST loud bang and violent jerk on shutdown

I am having an issue with my '10 RA that I can seem to find any threads on... and I know I cant be the only person with this issue.

The issue occurs after driving and I put the car in park. I turn off the ignition and just before engine stops, I hear a loud BANG and the car jerks forward violently as if I have been rear ended by a F-350 pickup.

This only happens after driving the car moderately to aggressively. It doesn't seem to occur after regular driving. If I use the the paddles or engage sport mode, its more likely to happen.

I want to say that the parking pin is engaging too soon, while the gearbox is still spinning? Not sure though.

Has any one else experienced this or know what it might be?

No. That is a 'new' one!

What if you shut if off in Neutral and then move the selector to park? Shut it off in gear?

Sounds like the clutches are sticking. Mine did that shortly before it died.

The trans is trying to put itself into neutral when you shut the car off..which is why it runs a bit after you turn the key to off, "according to Mitsu. tech." Ask to have the trans computer looked at from the dealership with their software.

This happened to me once. I am not sure what the issue is but it hasn't happened again.

I am having similar issues but when coming to a stop at a light or something and not putting it into park. It did it once today though after pulling into my drive way. I have the stage 2 gst map installed and it never did it before. It is going in for a trans service soon so hopefully this is all it is.

Took to dealers, had teach in and all that stuff done and resetted. Still does it when I turn the car off. I have a feeling the sst is giving in soon. I think it's time to sell this car and move on.

That would be a shame. If the hardware in the basket assembly is not worn out, putting a stock capacity clutch in the car isn't that expensive. Some guy I know has one that MSRP is less than $700...

I think the clanking noise once in awhile is normal. I'm just under 50K on my SST and it runs just fine. Have to take care if. Had the trans fluid changed at 10K, 27K and 47K and have an SSP perm filter installed. I also don't think it has an overheating problem. It was designed for spirited driving not necessarily racing on the tack, but there are a lot of quality after market performance parts that will allow you to handle the track well.
