2008 Redline Time Attack Rules Discussion
Just as the title states, post your questions about rules and your interpretation of rules here.
I have listed the full rules a couple of posts below.
Here is a link to the rules section of Redline TA, but as of today, it is still the 2007 rules: http://www.redlinetimeattack.com/index-2.html
My first question: In the street class, all cars must be fitted with a catalytic converter for 2008. Are "race" cats allowed? What are the specific specs allowed for cats? How will those suspected of running a hollowed out cat be challenged or policed?
I have listed the full rules a couple of posts below.

I have been emailed the 2008 rules twice by Nikolas but both times I couldn't open the pdf attachment. So, if you have the rules please copy and paste them into this thread.

With the stock body and unlimited motor mods this sounds like a great fit for your car.
The SCCA has a street tire class that has to run a cat also. Almost all the top Evos use the same free flowing race cat that passes the requirements. It's not a hollowed out piece that can be checked by unbolting the cat. Let me know if you're interested in more info.

Wow, talk about mind reading. You were posting this at the exact same time I was pm'ing you...
2) No specific specs... just that the main exhaust system must have a catalytic converter as part of the system. No getting around this rule by bolting a cat to the "car" and saying "look....I have a cat installed on the car..."
3) We'll inspect cats randomly during Tech Inspection... and will probably inspect those vehicles that podium...

Section 2. STREET CLASS
The Street Class is designed for stock to modified "daily driven" vehicles. Street Class is home for the grassroots enthusiast or tuner shop looking to prove they have the fastest vehicle on street tires. The Street Class does not imply that all modifications on a “Street Class” vehicle must be “street legal”, i.e. CARB Approved Intake systems, removal of factory installed catalytic converters, etc.
Rules for Street Class Cars:
2.1. Professional drivers are not eligible to drive in the Street Class. Professional Driver is defined by Redline Time Attack as someone who currently earns, or who has within the past 5 years earned, a significant amount of their income by driving and/or racing vehicles in a “Pro” level automotive racing series. This includes, but is not limited to: Drag Racing, Road Racing, Oval Racing and Drifting.
2.2. Street Class vehicles must be registered for use on public roadways. Vehicles entered into Street Class must show proof of current registration to Redline Time Attack event Tech Inspection personnel. If proof of current registration cannot be provided, the vehicle in question will be forced to compete in the Modified Class. A copy of the DMV registration paperwork, the same proof of registration required by law to be in the vehicle at all times, will suffice as evidence the vehicle is currently registered.
2.3. Replacement of OEM glass with lightweight material (plexiglass, Lexan, etc) and removal of OEM glass is strictly prohibited. This applies to ALL Street Class vehicles. No exceptions to this rule will be made.

2.5. One “major” engine upgrade permitted in Street Class.
· 2.5.1 An engine swap is considered one major engine upgrade. However, owners are permitted to swap an engine into their USDM vehicle if the engine was offered in the same chassis/model elsewhere in the world (JDM for example) for that chassis/model, and the engine swap will NOT count as a major engine upgrade.
· 2.5.2 Installing forced induction is considered one major engine upgrade.
· 2.5.3 Installing an OE turbocharged engine, that was available in a different market (JDM for example), into a USDM model of the same vehicle that did not come with a factory turbocharged engine, is permitted. This will only count as one major engine upgrade.
· 2.5.4 Engines are permitted to be “built”. (Forged rods, pistons, crank, etc). Built engines are not considered a major engine upgrade per these rules.

Section 6.0 Team Championship Points System
The 2008 Redline Time Attack season will see the introduction of a Championship Points System. This will be the only points system of its kind in any Time Attack series in North America. Competitors will be awarded points based on their finishing position at each event they attend and successfully complete. Point totals will be kept for each of the 9 Divisions within the Redline Time Attack Series. Competitors will be allowed to compete in as many events as they desire, however, only the top four points-scoring events for each competitor will be used to determine the standings heading into the Season Championship Finale. Below are the details behind the Redline Time Attack Team Championship Points System.
6.1 Points will be awarded to the Vehicle, not the Driver.
6.2 Points will be awarded to every vehicle that successfully completes at least one timed lap during an official “Time Attack” session at a sanctioned Redline Time Attack event, and finishes between 1st and 20th in their Division.
6.3 The method used for awarding points will be as follows:
1st: 30 Points
2nd: 25 Points
3rd: 20 Points
4th: 19 Points
5th: 18 Points
6.4 The points awarded will continue to decrease by 1 point from 6th place down to 20th place, with 20th receiving 3 points. Points will not be awarded to any vehicle finishing lower than 20th in their Division.
6.5 Two “Bonus Rounds” will be scheduled during the 2008 Redline Time Attack Season. The two rounds will be the GTLive event at Miller Motorsports Park and the GTLive event at Virginia International Raceway.
6.5.1.1 For each Bonus Round event, at the conclusion of the 2nd Time Attack session, the 7 fastest vehicles in each Division, based on results from both official Time Attack sessions, will be eligible for the Bonus Session.
6.5.1.2 For the Modified and Unlimited Class Bonus Session, the top 7 Unlimited Class vehicles will be at the front of the grid, in reverse order. Behind the Unlimited cars, will be the top 7 Modified Class vehicles, also in reverse order.
6.5.1.3 The 14 cars total will be grid, and will be taken around the course for one safety lap under caution and lead by an official “Pace Car”. All 14 cars will commence a short 5-Lap sprint race. Each vehicle will be awarded points based on their finishing position within their Class. (7 points for 1st, 6 points for 2nd, 5 points for 3rd, etc.)
6.5.1.4 For a Modified Class or Unlimited Class vehicle to be eligible to participate in the Bonus Session, the vehicle must have an approved roll cage installed. If a vehicle qualifies for the Bonus Session based on time, but fails to qualify based on lack of a roll cage, the next fastest vehicle in that class will be selected to participate in the Bonus Session. If a vehicle owner/driver voluntarily withdraws from participating in the Bonus Session, the next fastest vehicle in that class will be selected to participate in the Bonus Session.
6.5.1.5 For the Street Class Bonus Session, the top 7 fastest Street Class vehicles will be grid in order of fastest to slowest. The Street Class Bonus Session will consist of 7 laps total (1 warm-up, 5 hot laps, 1 cool down)
6.5.1.6 If a Street Class vehicle voluntarily exits the track during the Bonus Session, whether into the Hot Pits or into the Paddock, that vehicle will receive a DNF and zero bonus points.
6.5.1.7 If a vehicle is forced to retire or pull off the track in a safe area, due to a mechanical issue or even voluntarily, and cannot continue on track, for whatever reason, during the Bonus Session, the vehicle will receive a DNF and zero bonus points.
6.5.1.8 Each vehicle is only permitted to keep the points earned from their highest placing finish between the two Bonus Rounds. Vehicles will not be given points from both Bonus Rounds.
6.5.1.9 All points earned during the Super Session will be added to that vehicles Championship Points total.
6.6 Vehicles are permitted to be entered in as many Redline Time Attack events as their owners choose. Only the top four points scoring events for each vehicle will be used to determine the Championship Points standings heading into the Season Finale.
6.7 If a vehicle is damaged in any way during a Redline Time Attack event that prevents its continued use at future Redline Time Attack events (drive train, chassis, etc), the vehicle may be replaced with a similar vehicle fitting the requirements for the same Division. All of the points previously earned by the original vehicle will carry over to the replacement vehicle. If the replacement vehicle does not fit within the same Division as the original vehicle the points previously earned will NOT carry over.
6.8 Damage occurred outside of a sanctioned Redline Time Attack event does not qualify as “damage”, per the rules listed above. This includes, but is not limited to, damage that occurs in testing leading up to Redline Time Attack event, damage occurred while Dyno tuning, or damage that occurs at events sanctioned by other sanctioning bodies.
6.9 If a team/ owner wish to voluntarily retire or replace their original vehicle, after the original vehicle has already competed in a Redline Time Attack event, the team/owner has the right to do this. However, any points attained by the original vehicle, will only carry over to the replacement vehicle if the replacement vehicle competes in the same Division as the original vehicle.
6.10 Teams/Owners will only be permitted to voluntarily replace their vehicle once during the season and carry over the vehicle’s points. Teams/Owners will be allowed to voluntarily replace their vehicle more than once; however, they will only be able to carry over the vehicle’s points on the first vehicle change.
6.11 Following the completion of the Season Finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the final point standings will be used to determine each of the Division Champions of the 2008 Redline Time Attack Season.
6.12 Of the three Division Champions within each Class (Street, Modified, Unlimited), the Division Champion with the highest points total after the conclusion of the Season Finale, will be crowned Class Champion.
6.13 Of the three Redline Time Attack Class Champions (Street, Modified, Unlimited), after the conclusion of the Season Finale, and tabulation of the final points standings, the Class Champion with the highest points total will be crowned Redline Time Attack Grand Champion.
6.14 Division tie breakers will be determined in this manner:
1. Head To Head Victories in events where both vehicles competed
2. Highest placement in a Bonus Round Super Session
3. Total points earned from ALL events, including events beyond the top 4 results for each vehicle
4. Total points earned from both Bonus Round Super Sessions
6.15 Class tie breakers will be determined in this manner:
1. Highest Placement in a Bonus Round Super Session
2. Total points earned from ALL events, including events beyond the top 4 results for each vehicle
3. Total points earned from both Bonus Round Super Sessions
6.16 Grand Champion tie breakers will be determined in this manner
1. Total points earned from ALL events, including events beyond the top 4 results for each vehicle
2. Total points earned from both Bonus Round Super Sessions

I'm going to post up the email I sent here. I'm doing this because I see that you still don't have the definitions correct as to what distinguishes a triple adjustable damper from a 4-way.

Hello,
I just wanted to comment on your 2007 Rules. One thing I'd
recommend for clarify of reference, that you use numbering
on all rule points instead of "-" so each can be
unambiguously referred to.
Now, regarding the following rule that falls under the
"Street" class:
######
- No 3-Way Adjustable Dampeners (3-Way meaning adjustability
of BOTH Low and High speed
settings for BOTH Compression and Rebound. Adjustment of
Height is not considered one of
the 3-Ways of adjustability.
- Two-Way Adjustable dampeners are ALLOWED
######
Note that a damper whose low and high speed damping is
adjustable for both compression and rebound is a 4-way
("quadruple") adjustable damper, not 3-way ("triple").
Typical 3-way adjustable dampers only have high and low
speed adjustment for compression. As the rule is stated, it
appears to allow a triple adjustable shock, but not a
quadruple adjustable.
Also, due to the popular misnomer of "10-way", "14-way"
verbiage introduced primarily by Asian-made coilovers when
referring to the number of "clicks" of adjustment on a
single adjustable damper, it could be useful to refer to the
dampers "double", "triple", and "quadruple" adjustable.
I'd propose the following wording that could help clarify
the intent of the rules in question:
"- No triple adjustable dampers ("triple" meaning
adjustability of BOTH Low and High speed
settings for EITHER Compression OR Rebound). Height
adjustability is allowed and not considered a damping
adjustment.
- Double adjustable dampers are ALLOWED. A double adjustable
damper is one where compression and rebound are
independently adjustable."
Also note that damper is spelled "damper", not "dampener".
Feel free to refer to any of the Penske, Ohlins or Koni
reference manuals here:

Also note that damper is spelled "damper", not "dampener".

I could make the simple revision.... result is the same.
No adjustment of Both high speed and low speed of compression and/or rebound. per your definition, 3-way and 4-way would be out in Street....

Take a track, and each competitor gets 3 laps to get their best time. Each car is let on track at certain intervals so the wheel to wheel running is kept to a minimum.

Rule verbiage aside, per industry standard definitions of triple and 4-way adjustable dampers, are triple and 4-way adjustable dampers legal in Street or not?
Chime in:
^^^No, not legal in street class^^^
-Shocks can only have 1 compression and 1 rebound adjustment mechanism. Not both a high and low speed adjustment for either/both directions. Number of clicks and range of adjustment is open.
-They may also be adjustable for overal length and spring tension. This doesnt count as one of the adjustments per RTA rules.
-Piggy-back oil/nitrogen resevoirs OK as long as they are built into the shock body. remote resevoirs (as in a hose that links the shock body to the resevoir) not OK.
Engine swaps to a roof mounted jet engine (one only
) still allowed per rules, even in street class.........

I didnt read this thread entirely, so maybe i missed something. But TA's are not considered as wheel to wheel racing. However, i do like the idea of drivers presenting some form of competition/racing license. I know plenty of people who run in advanced groups who simply do not have any sort of competition experience within an organization that requires a competition/racing license.
