NT-05 v Star Specs?

NT-05 v Star Specs?
My star specs are nearing the end of their life (I have maybe 2000 more soft miles on them) so it's time to start planning and budgeting for new tires.
Since I'm not limited to STU size any more, I'm thinking about going 275/35/18 for my daily driver tires which I also use on the road course (and autocrosses if my rcomps are corded like this weekend).
The NT-05 is about $25 cheaper per tire and has good BlackTrack reviews.
Has anyone autocrossed on them yet? Used them as a street tire? Hit any rain with them (it doesn't rain here a lot so I'm not terribly concerned with that).

I'm very interested in hearing from someone who has actually tried both of these tires in an auto-x and/or on track. I'll probably be picking up a set of the nitto's myself, mainly because they're cheaper, and would like to know if I'll be giving up grip to someone on dunlops.

There was an web posting/test that an S2000 driver made (KPerez posted it somewhere on here). It compared the nt05s to the star specs.
In their opinion, the nt05 rewarded smoother driving because it was more r-compish in it's traction release characteristics than the star spec (which could be more manhandled and be ok). Also, the NT-05 has a stiffer sidewall, so it seemed crisper to the poster than the star spec.
The NT-05 has less initial tread depth than the star spec as well in case that's an issue for anyone.
I personally think the NT-05's are going to suck in the rain. The Star Specs have huge rain channels.

I've been looking at the NT-05s myself for dd usage. I've found them the cheapest on DiscountTire.com for $167 per. I had to go to some other boards to find some people with actual track reviews for them though. I think I found a post on one of the Bimmer forums where a guy put these tires through the motions. Not auto-x, but at least he provided some good details. I've decided to get the NT-05s based on his review and they're cheaper than the StarSpecs.
