Here's my Auto-x/DD evo

Hey guys,

My Evo is a 2003, I purchased it over 4 years ago with just over 20k miles. It now has just over 100k miles and it's paid off finally. I couldnt see myself tracking or auto-xing a car that I was making payments on, so I'm just now jumping into the fray.

Suspension
Everything Stock

Chassis
Nothing

Power
HKS Hi-Power exhaust
Megan Test Pipe
Megan Down Pipe
ARC Induction Box
Greddy Type-S BOV
Walbro 255 Hi-flow Fuel pump
ARP Head Studs
Hallman RX MBC
Nisei LICP
Brian Crower 272 Intake/Exhaust camshafts
Tune
The car was tuned at Epic Motorsports in Fayetteville, NC. Its making 324AWHP.

Drivetrain
Act HDSS clutch with Gruppe S (super stock) flywheel
Stock Transmission
Stock TC

Wheels and Brakes
Vented/Slotted rotors
Autozone brake pads (yeah, I'm a cheap skate )
Stock Evo 8 wheels
Crappy Pirelli P6 tires 235/45

Aero
Rexspeed Vortex Generator
Mach 5 Front Lip

Inside
Everything stock
Added Defi Blue-Racer Boost gauge to A-pillar

I just completed my second auto-x, and although I did alot better than my first meeting, I'm still not running great times. I think it has alot to do with my tires. I was planning on getting a set of Falken Azenis RT-615 in 245/45R17 size. My friends in my club that I run with say that I should go for a set of summer performance tires first, and learn on them for a couple of years before going to an R-compound tire (as they give a false sense of security).

The club I run with is Tarheel Sports Car Club, and they sponsor various auto-x events throughout NC (as well as track days at VIR and rally-cross). I'm really disheartened by the fact that Evos just simply dont represent. Suby drivers are usually out in force, and I'm the only evo driver in the whole club. I've tried asking some of the suby drivers that are instructors for adivse, and the usual response is...its a mitsubishi, it'll break if you try to do what I do.

Its also disheartening seeing just what S2000s and vettes can do in Auto-x. Those cars rule the day in my neck of the woods. Do you guys have any advise for me as far as alignment specs? I'm going to get the Falken Tires and an alignment before the next event (mid May), and if anyone has an alignment configuration better than stock with that particular tire, your input is greatly appreciated. Any input on my setup in general would also be greatly appreciated.

Also, I only do one auto-x event a month. Should I switch to the severe usage schedule for chaning the TC, diff, and tranny fluid? I think thats every 15k miles.

Below are pics of me at the Novice school...

Did my first track day this past weekend. 2 days at NJMP Lightning with NASA. I had been there last year with CART so I wasn't new to the track. Still stayed in HPDE1 for both days but am cleared to run in 2 now. The car was great. Much more powerful than the last time I was there. Easily hitting 130+ in HPDE1 and I felt very confident in the HT10s for the evil turn 1. Bought a new set today in fact.

I will be running Monticello with COM on May 3rd (full 4.1 mile course!). Excited to try a new track that I've heard great things about with a new club as well.

As for future modifications, I am definitely planning on an Autopower bolt in. Unsure if I want the 4 or 6 point. Some FIA seats (Sparco Evos seem ideal) and 5 point harnesses. Also should send my transfer case to Shep for the LSD and rebuild along with my rear diff to TRE for the 1.5 Max Lock. $$$$

Evo x 2010

I got my Evo last November. Picked it up Thursday and then Sunday I was doing this,

Safe to say that in 3 days the car was still stock.

I then put Gislaved Nordfrost 5s on and in January it looked like this,

Then spring came and I bought some wheels, Volk 57Ds 18x9.5 and a HSD coil over ( while I wait for something more serious)

waiting on the grid for 1st timeattack.

At speed at our local track during that timeattack.

The car is still stock, expect for the wheels, coilovers and brakes.
edit- Maganflow CBE and GULF Competition RF1000 brake fluid.

Since then, the car was at LCMT and WGI with COMSCC and then Mosport and Calabogie with ASE Lapping club.

Once I sort out the pad issues, I will be real happy.

Here is a link to a video of me last Monday at our local short track.

The car tailing me is a S2000 with a turbo charged 550 whp set up on BFG R1s.

I am on my now pretty toasted 048Rs and wondering why my *** is all over the place.

We run lapping days every Monday and this night, we lapped into the twilight with the tracks spot lights on.

was pretty fun.

It was about 5degrees Celsius at that point. Traction was becoming more an issue and I think he got way sideways on that exit.

The busstop was getting tricky even for me.

Started HPDE's last year in '09 at Monticello NY south course w/ OEM wheels/tires, down pipe, exhaust then .....

Did the Monticello NY full course w/ upgraded tires to 245's along w/ upper and lower intercooler piping as well as better brake pads

I am planning next year to go w/ a larger rear sway bar and see how I like the feeling.

I am also interested in trying out some gravel and snow events this fall/winter w/ a different set up.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX RS

I purchased the RS new in May of 2006. I daily drove the car for three years until I found a good run around car. I've been AutoXing the car for two years, and I did my first two Track days this summer. I ran on Thunderbolt at NJMP in June, and I drove the full course at Monticello in September. Needless to say, I'm hooked.

I do not plan to further upgrade the brakes, tires or suspension until I feel confident that I've outgrown the current setup. The car is basically setup for the street as it sits right now. With that said, I was very impressed how capable the car was on a road course.

Calling this a Track Evo would obviously be a bit of a stretch. I like to think of it as more of a Weekend Warrior Evo. Who knows what the future may hold!

Power:

- WORKS 3" Turbo-Back Exhaust
- Hallman Pro RX Manual Boost Controller
- K&N Cone Air Filter with MAF Adapter
- ETS Lower Intercooler Pipe
- 330whp/330wtq (Tuned by Sean Ivey in the Summer of 2007 on his DynoJet)
- Car runs 22-24psi on the street and for AutoX, and 18-20psi for track days.

Drivetrain:

- WORKS Shifter Console Bushings
- WORKS Shifter Cable Bushings
- Factory Clutch (50k miles and counting)

Chassis:

- Bilstein HD Struts
- Swift Spec-R Springs
- Whiteline 24mm Rear Sway Bar
- WORKS Croxx Plate II

Brakes:

- Racing Brake ET900 Brake Pads (Front)
- Racing Brake ET800 Brake Pads (Rear)
- Centric Blank Rotors
- WORKS Stainless Steel Brake Lines
- Motul RBF 600 Brake Fluid
- Girodisk Brake Shims

Wheels/Tires

- Enkei NT03+M Wheels 17x9.5+38
- Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec 255/40R17
- -1.8° Camber Front/-1.3° Camber Rear. Zero Toe all around.

Aero:

- OEM

Inside:

- AMS Delrin Shift Knob
- Defi BF Amber Boost Guage (psi) w/ Defi-Link
- Zeitronix ZT2 Wideband & LCD Screen
- Binary Lowering Brackets for Drivers Seat (Thanks to the OP, one of my favorite modifications!)

Things I like:

- Reliability. The ability to drive a few hours to a track, drive the car near redline all day long and drive home without a worry.
- Steering response.
- Car handles better than I can drive at this point.
- Relatively inexpensive to maintain.
- Parts are readily availability and affordable when compared to many other track ready cars.
- Incredibly capable platform! Especially considering that the car is not that far from a stock Evo 9.

Things I don't like:

- The fact that I cannot afford to track the car every weekend.

Future:

- Track Time!
- Cold Air Box
- TRE Upgraded Rear Differential
- Harness Bar/Racing Harness
- Rear Diffuser
- Tow Hooks
- Functional Lip (maybe)
- The Suspension will eventually be upgraded, but not until I outgrow my current setup.
