This past Monday a small part of the Forged Performance Team spent our day at Road Atlanta for the CHIN Motorsports Track Day. There was plenty of track available to all drivers and many personal best lap times were set through out the day. One of those drivers was Forged Performance's own Sharif Abdelbaset in the track prepared Porsche 996 GT3 with an astonishing 1:31.8 laptime! This an unheard of laptime in the "old school" 996 GT3 street car chassis. Even in factory 996 Cup Car, this is an exceptionally fast time. To put this into perspective this is almost 4 seconds faster than the NASA GTS-4 track record! Here is a quick run down of this stock powered but track day modified GT3:

That is a good flying lap of Road Atlanta. How much does that thing weigh? When is Sharif going to race?

The GT3 weighs in right at about 2900lbs with all fluids and without driver. Sharif has had his comp license for years. However, between the business, instructing and the events he attends, he simply does not have the time to commit to racing wheel-to-wheel. That being said, all of our events where Sharif will be driving are listed on our FB page when they are coming up. Everyone is welcome to come and hang out with the Forged Performance crew. Sharif is usually giving ride alongs at each event.

What TT class would this setup class to? The TTA record is 1:31.51 by one of the Corvette Mafia guys. TTS is a 1:29.

The 996 GT3 shows as an SUR rated car in stock trim so it would automatically be out of the points based classification and into power/weight territory.
