i got some specs from the manufacture.

OE 46mm pistons = 0.18 lbs, RB SS = 0.225 lbs; .045 difference
OE 40mm pistons = 0.14 lbs, RB SS = 0.19 lbs; .05 difference

that's a total of 0.19 lbs (1/5 lbs) difference for all four pistons for one caliper. i don't know how much lighter the titanium pistons would be compare to aluminum if any.

if you run the stainless pistons, you could eliminate the shims and brake even with the weight gain. but i'm going to keep the shims in as a heat barrier for the dust boots.

I found a few on the web in the wrong size for ~$150 each piston. Only a paltry $600 brake upgrade.

You mean $600 per caliper.

i saw this review of RB stainless pistons on BMW 135i. those stock aluminum pistons looks in bad shape.

I picked up some titanium to make a set of pistons for my self, I'll let you know how it goes. Also depending on the alloy titanium transfers only about 1/10 the heat that stainless does, that does not mean that it won't conduct it, but it won't transfer it. I may get started on them next week when the lathe parts come in for the project.

^ that will be interesting. keep up updated with progress. take some pics if you can. i'm still unconvinced that titanium pistons provide any significant benefit over stainless pistons other slight weight reduction.

Track weekend went great at the Glen, except for some minor mechanical issues. lost a nut for turbo mani/turbine housing. the ATP turbo uses M10x1.5, it wasn't easy to find one. the turbo coupler blew off, i thought it ripped.

i was able to do 4 sessions in on Saturday and 2 sessions on Sunday before i corded all 4 A6s. i had to bleed the front brakes after the first session on saturday to get the rest of the bubbles out from installing the pistons, didn't get that much street miles on it since after installing the pistons. i used the left over DSUNO pads that i had. the brakes felt great all weekend. pedal pressure felt consistent all weekend. on one of the session, i came in after a cool down lap and my front rotor temp was 850 degree.

i'll try to take pads off tonight and take some pictures of the pistons and dust seals to see their conditions.

i have a NASA TT event this weekend at NJMP Thunderbolt. i'll probably have 3 more events before the end of the season.

Has someone made a thread on this. These turbo bolts seem to make their way loose pretty easy. Anyone safety wiring their stuff? Both Jeremy and I had this exact problem a few weeks back at Road America.

I don't know if there's a thread about it already. this is only my 3rd track day with the turbo. first track day was at monticello, i notice there was an exhaust leak, i pulled off the mani heat shield and all 4 nuts were loose, one stud was almost completely out. good think i caught it in time and didn't lose the stud or i would have been screwed. so after that, i always tighten them after lunch time when the engine is cooled.

the studs are not long enough to even get a washer on it. so i'm going to contact them to see if they can send longer studs so i can use Nord-Lock washer. i've used these washers on the 02 housing and they haven't came loose.

Any more update on the stainless pistons? I know you just ran your second event on them?

two weekends of track, total of 4 track days, one weekend at Watkins Glen and one weekend at NJMP Thunderbolt. both tracks have very high speed braking from 140+ mph to 60 mph. the dust boots held up fine so far. the brakes felt great. the pedals never felt soft towards the end of the day and the brake fluids have not been flushed for 6 track weekends, in only replaced the fluids that was lost when i removed the calipers for rebuild, which was about half a 12 oz bottle. you can see the it's dry around the seals, no leaks at all.

as you can see i used the DSUNO pads pretty much all the way down.
