Thunderhill Track Day

First let me say thanks to Robert (robi) for inviting me up and giving me one hell of a ride. I had a blast up there, man.

Second, anyone else think it was funny that a non-trailerd four door sedan put down times close to a trailerd Viper on Hoosiers? I kid, I kid. Everyone at the track was extremely pleasant and knowlageable. Not to mention the assortment of kick *** cars on display.

Props to Buschur, RRE, and Vivid for building such a bad *** car for such little green. Pictures will be up by the end of the week.

John's Viper and Dave's S2000 both ran 2.00.0X. I believe Rylan's S2000 was also in the .00s or .01 on Saturday.

Thanks Robi (JIC) and Jason (Ohlins) for the rides in your cars. You guys are right about upgraded suspension making a huge difference! They were both very impressive in their own ways. I'll be ordering a set tomorrow.

BTW: A friend of mine was taking pictures at both days of Thill and have upwards of 500 pics from the weekend. I'll let everyone know where you can see samples in a couple days after they're resized and uploaded. I believe they're very high res pix (2400x1600) and he'll be looking for a few bucks for an electronic copy of the pic to cover his camera equiptment rental costs.

There are a bunch of pics that had over 6 or 7 EVOs on track in one shot! You guys have got to see these!

I saw the 2.00 on Sat, but I didnt know it was the S2k. Was that the one running without the rear bumper?

John's Viper was pretty sweet, too. Really nice guy.

It was the S2k with the bumper.

The one w/o the bumper has ran 1:58s. I have a feeling that it will be faster come April, but then again so will the EVOs. Sounds like we're going to have some good friendly competition amongst two of the fastest growning import track cars with Robi leading the EVO pack!

I am really sorry I missed it. It is my understanding that RacerFerrari had the second fastest evo times and his car is very close to stock, I believe. Great job Robi, you're car, with stock turbo, isn't that far from stock either. Wow.

I'm curious, what was the primary factor keeping the Evos from doing less than 2:02? And did any of you have high oil temps?

No to big turbo.

235s don't have enough rubber on the ground for a 3100+ lb car w/o driver. Like there is NO GRIP.

At least a couple videos coming by end of day.

I'll cram this in here

I would post this question in its own thread, but I would really like to restrict it primarily to those of you who were at this track day. What was everyone's impressions of the different coilovers? Ohlins, JIC, etc. I'm going to have to make a decision very soon, so any info is appreciated.

Thanks!
Joe

Now this is my own opinion. Others may disagree with me...

I rode in both the RRE JIC setup and the Ohlins R&T kit. I was impressed with both.

If I was building a car to enjoy on the street with the occasional track day (i.e. a few a year), I would go with the Ohlins. These things ride so smooth but yet provide such a great improvement over stock as far as cornering grip. Bumps are smoothed out much better and they allow for a nice lowered stance (stock cars look so stupid all jacked up IMO). You will be able to get a good street and track alignment with this setup without having to buy more parts.

If I was building a track car for track days and time trials, I would go with the RRE JIC setup along with any and everything John at RRE recommends. The car is transformed into a razor sharp insturment. It will be more harsh than your stock suspension, and it is a lot lower than stock with the RRE settings. But this thing hauls around corners like you wouldn't believe. They seem to work great with R compond tires too. The camber plates for the front allow for very aggressive alignment settings.

I'm building a car which I take to the track for 20+ track days a year. So I'm going with the RRE JICs.

A few small pictures for starters. These things are taking forever to resize and clean up via Photoshop I heard:

Lots of EVOs... one in the dirt..

EVOs as far as the eye can see

Me x4 on the wrong line

600+ more coming soon!
