Sounds like a plan! Then stock wheels on street tires it will be for this season.

They've got great rebates on tires right now. $100 bucks off hankook v12 evo2

Are 245/45/17 or 245/40/17 tires preferred on the stock 8" wheels for autocross? Does the smaller diameter tire have any advantage?

You do not want V12's for autoX. You want a 200 treadwear tire like Hankook RS3's, BFG Rival, Dunlop Z2, Bridgestone RE71r, etc...

Typically tires that are not of the 200tw variety have more grooves for water evacuation and to reduce noise. Those grove make shoulders smaller and less tolerant to heat which leads to chunking on hot days. You certainly can run V12 evo's but the RS3/Z2/Rival/RE71r/V720 tires are all basically purpose built for autox.

Considering you're in RI, do some searching on which of the mentioned does best in the wet to use year round. IIRC, the RS3 and RE71 are both great wet tires.

Ive got the ST as a daily and winter driver so for the time being I can focus on getting tires for the evo that are optimized for dry traction.

I see now from the info you guys gave me why I didn't win when I auto-x with MSS. I had the wrong tires!

But in all seriousness I'll go with the R3s over the v12s. With the 245s should I go with the 45 or 40 sidewalls? Thanks

Impressive times man. Holy smokes you destroyed that course!

I did alright. I need better tires more suited for autocross. I ran a SM evo on 235 Michelin super sports. Ha-ha.

But practice makes perfect. I should be there on May 1st.

I also noticed my tire pressures were way too high. The fronts were up to 44 psi when I checked them after my first set of runs. which was well before noon and the warmest part of the day.

^you'll be bleeding tire pressure for at least the first 3 runs at a typical autox

This. On a longer course (70-70 seconds), my tires always 4 psi taken out the first 2-3 runs. And then maybe another .5 or 1 the next couple runs.
