2016 SM (Street Mod) Autocross Discussion

Alright guys, the season is firing up for us this weekend so I'm guessing the rest of the world has already started (PNW always behind schedule). What's the big, or small, changes for everyone this year?

I've been immersed in figuring things out for my little side business while trying to figure out how to toddler so haven't done anything of note other than think of big ideas.

Just took on way more responsibility at work so, time permitting, the plan is:

E85
Rebuild ASTs
Rebuild calipers, add 2-pc rotors, new pads (open to suggestions)
18x10.5 NT03s with 285 A7s
Aero
Trailer
Attend nationals

I already have a pile of parts here I just need to order some final things and then rip into the car.

Having a wheel off at the track put a huge dent in my "built motor and ohlins" fund/savings, so I probably won't be going to autocross this year. The red is bit too laggy on a 2.0L to be competitive. Awesome on the track though.

2016 is a rebuilding year for me. I'm running FS in an E92 M3 for the year, with lots of big changes happening to the Evo in the background.

New motor
New turbo setup
New wheels/tires
New suspension (valving and spring rates)
New bodywork
New aero
New color (we'll see)
Car will hopefully be in the realm of 75-100lb lighter than it was at 2014 Nationals

Will definitely be back in full force in 2017 potentially with a new codriver as well.

Did some changes over the winter.
1. Got rid of the Sunroof.
2. changed the side view mirrors.
3. swapped to e85.
4. race seats installed.
5. some alignment changes.

I already attended a National Tour event this past weekend @ Dixie!! I was able to close the gap between me and the top SM guys in the SE like Tim White in his insane RSTi with 315 hoosiers and about 100 more Hp/Tq, Roy in a similar set up but newer WRX, and then Eric Hyman in his GTR, 345 A6 at 4 corners, and gazillions HP/TQ.
I was the least HP car at the SM line up ( 350hp/350tq) and was the only one running non Hoosiers ( 275-40-17 BFG R1s). I finished 6th out of 10 cars. Tim got a top spot with his co driver in 2nd, Roy in 3rd, Eric in 4th ( last trophy spot), and the co driver of the wrx in 5th, with me next and 2 seconds away from last trophy spot!!! Grrrr
Last time I attended a national tour event I was almost 13 seconds away from top spot, this year I was only 5!!!! So Im quite pleased with the results, and plans for improvements has already been drawn up and partly executed.

Plans
1. 18x10.5 wheels. DONE!!
2. 315-30-18 A7.
3. fenders massages to fit new wheels and tires.
4. more power ie: CAMS, head work, and turbo.

Some great results if you ask me. That's some fast competition to be keeping up with, especially considering the tire.

I still cant quite bring myself to make the 315 jump. Fenders can really ever be un-cut

Thank you! I take that as a Hugh complement! I am going to continue pushing myself and the car this year and hoping to shave off more weight and time off the car. Thanks again for the complement.

Hmm.... Tire Rack shows a 335/30/18 as the same height as 315/30/18, but a full inch wider. I already have enough wheel for the 335... maybe worth a shot?

Weird, why wouldn't that be a 25series then?

Yeah... I even checked the Hoosier website. 25.6" for both. Only thing I can think of is Hoosier made a typo and Tire Rack just carried it through in their database. Otherwise it makes no sense to me.

Maybe if you catch their error you can get a free tire out of it

So the 315/30 and 335/30 ARE the same diameter. Jeff from Hoosier emailed me back and said that they use the same mold with a 1" spacer to make the 335 an inch wider than the 315. Now I'm getting bad ideas...
