curious if, or how much, bigger rotor we can run while staying on the 9 brakes, since even the pads are the same. planning to have the suspension apart this weekend, maybe i'll take a look, see if 330s would fit.

also, ugh, more theoretical questions. on my current setup i'm using titanium shims to work as a heat shield - but in theory, this should keep the heat away from the pistons and more on the pads & rotors. given my vented piston etc., maybe i shouldn't use the shims, let the heat come out more and let the pistons vent it.. or is it still better to use the ti shims?

It is entirely the larger rotor. The X caliper uses the same pad, and the same pistons sizes.

You would need to make an adapter bracket to run a larger rotor with the 9 caliper. Might as well buy a X setup.

The evoX caliper is physically larger from a quick glance. Not sure if that means it holds more fluid or is more rigid. for what its worth.

so the 9 brakes are pretty much at the limit of the size of rotor? obviously i'm sure there's not a lot of room there, but if i can get a 10% improvement simply from, the next time i wear out rotors, getting slightly larger ones, i can put that on the list for next time. my dbas are floating, so i'm sure i can request upsized to 330 if i can fit it. anyway i'll look this weekend.

The caliper needs to be moved further away from the spindle to fit the larger rotor. It's not as simple as just slapping a larger rotor in.

hmm icic. yea i checked some pics, there's no way i could squeeze a larger rotor on the existing setup that would have any meaning. oh well. other cars actually have had brackets designed for them to fit OUR brakes in, which i thought was interesting

When I had them side by side they were the same, only the mounting legs are longer.

was re-considering this, but what a pain... would have to sell two sets of 17" wheels, the brand new rotors (dba 5000 front, dba 4000 rear), sell the upgraded evo 9 brake calipers i currently have, buy the set of evo x cailpers, buy the evo x rotors, drill the mounting brackets, and figure out how to fab the rear for the rear calipers... you'd still have to run ducting etc. for any track work..

that's a lot of exchanging i'd have to do

selling those things should be too hard. and i would just skip the rear Evo X brake swap. just do the front.

doesn't that change the braking balance too much? i.e., get loose-r on braking?

we just did the front and it was awesome. at first i felt like we had too good of brakes - but once you get used to them they are amazing. that combined with our weight reduction resulted in some short stopping distances!

If youre going to drill through the steel upright, order the size you need of cobalt coated drill from McMaster or somewhere. Cobalt stands up to steel drilling far far better than standard HSS uncoated that most people have.

Of course if you want a set of baller uprights from the next batch I can size those appropriately for you .

sadly i'm trying to do this on a budget... can you fab just the mounting brackets with the sizes for evo x's, front and rear? i bet they'd be popular given this thread
