Best way to rent a tow vehicle & a car trailer?
I was (ok, still am) supposed to codrive a SSC car at the upcoming solo nationals. I drove the said car for the first time last Sunday, and..... really did not like it .
Which makes me think seriously about just running mine in BS instead. However, I have taken great care to keep the miles down throughout my ownership and there is no way I will be putting 2600 miles on it for 6 minutes of run time, nationals or not.
So I've been looking for a way to rent a tow vehicle and a trailer. I've looked into renting both from U-haul, which was $$$$$ since they charge by mile. The cheapest method I've found so far is renting a truck from Enterprise Trucks (local branch has unlimited miles and also allows towing) and just the trailer from U-haul, which comes out to around $800 total.
Anyone has better ideas? Local members have suggested renting a Tacoma / Tundra through the Toyota Rent a Car program and also Turo but none of the Toyota dealers around me seem to allow towing and I don't feel comfortable with Turo.

I would just ship the car, and fly out. Most rental companies only allow a certain mileage per day, so cross country towing will definitely put you over that...

I've seen people towing across country with rentals, so I know they allow it.. but usually one way (moving). I'm Not sure they will care that you doing a return trip, or not. That was all U-haul, though. I'm not sure how a car rental company does things. You may want to clarify with Enterprise. It could be an expensive mistake if you misunderstand their policy.
Most people that I know either own/borrow a truck and rent the trailer. Renting both is a lot tougher, it sounds.

By "allow" I meant included in the daily rate. They charge you more if you go over the set amount.

I dunno. Does an Evo depreciate $800 after 2600 miles? Not like were driving Ferraris.
😂
Drive the car there ,stash the $800 in savings & apply it towards the car when you sell it, if you're that concerned. You can also add the money you'll save in gas. LOL
In all seriousness I'd tow, also. My car is really loud and I don't trust my transmission.

Truck rentals from Enterprise were around $2k + with miles being accounted for ( no unlimited miles plan ). Uhaul I'd imagine would be roughly about the same.
