rear brake pad retainer pin fall out??

anyone else have this problem? pretty sure its due to needing more clearance on the rear pads and them rubbing on the two piece rotors but it seems like we should have a pin similar to the STI's.

do you guys run sti pins? will they work in ours?

One the members posted this 2 years ago, as it happened to him as well. One of posts noted the diff between the STI cotter pin vs our clam shell type pin

I drilled the tip that protrudes from the caliper body, and I safety wire the pins together.

Ditto, but I used clips.

... but for some reason my IBSRV hosted pic of the pin is now a pic of some snowed up Evo in that thread....

this happened at the track on an evo before. we push an allen wrench through and bend the end over as a temporarily fix and got through the end of the event.

LOL, this just happened to me a month ago. I thought I was crazy until I found that thread
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/mo...-fall-out.html

I just replaced them with new OEMs but I'd love a more permanent solution. Comparing the old spring to the new spring, I think they just fatigue over time.

I wonder if this is actually related to heat causing expansion of the caliper allowing the pin to slide out, or if it's just happening to track junkies being that we're the ones going through brake pads all the time so the clips are becoming worn out?

Heat and vibration mostly, don't see that kind of heat until you're tracking it.

It happened on my very first track day with my first evo. Was still on what ever rear pads were on the car when I bought it, and it was a show car so I can't imagine it being from wear. Design flaw on Brembo, that's my opinion

We had this happen over and over and over again during OLOA in 2011. Changing out the brake rotors fixed it and it never happened a single time again. Our conclusion was a warped or not fully seated brake rotor (crud between the rotor and hub) that lead to vibration and the harmonic was the perfect frequency to push the pins out. We could replace them and they would fall out in 3 laps.
