So first weekend out I got an easy win and 2 Hoosiers on Saturday and then we had two drying sessions late in the day on Sunday to try and set fast laps. Unfortunately, due to the huge amount of rain Saturday afternoon they had to cancel some sessions and they combined things on Sunday meaning HPDE1/2 went out right after TT so I only got to run 4 laps each drying session before pitting so my student didn't miss any track time. My main competitor got to run the full session each session, and I think he threw sticker R7s on for the last session and nipped me by 2 tenths to take the Hoosiers. I blew the final turn coming to start what ended up being my fastest lap or I would have gotten the win. Racer excuses over, it was a great first weekend, and I love driving the Evo. I don't plan to let an M3 beat me the rest of the year. I'll probably have video up of the wet lap and the dry lap in a couple days. Looking forward to a great NASA season.

Any other Evos competing with NASA right now other than me and Justin winning ST3 out in SoCal?

My second NASA TT4 weekend in the car went well. I battled with my buddy Dysen Pham in his formerly TTB now TT4 S2000. He ran 245/40/17 Hoosier A7s on a 17x10 (illegal as of May 31, 2018) and took the -1.0 hit for running Hoosier A7s as he isn't at the ratio like I am at 11.6:1. We were around 700 lbs difference in weight with me weighing in at 3334 lbs on a 3301 lb classing form. We were separated on both days by 2 tenths of a second. He got the win on Saturday, and I got the win on Sunday so we both took home 3 Hoosiers as we had 7 in class both days. I was running the 245/35/18 Hoosier R7 on my 18x9.5 Enkei NT03+Ms. This setup will also be illegal for my class form on May 31, 2018. Hence I have been ordering 245/40/18 Hoosier R7s which should fit the NASA template and allow me to continue taking the .6 modifier for 266mm tires. Here is my best 1:52.8 lap of the weekend:

Keep it up. My kitchen remodel has me down until June-ish but I'll be out there in ST3 or ST2 as well.

These new tire rules are interesting.

245/40/18 is a tall tire. Are you concerned about fitment?

How far over the limit was the 245/35/18 on the 18x9.5s? Do you think they would have passed on an 18x9?

I am not concerned. Thai ran the 275/35/18 tire last season, and the 245/35/18s look like rubber bands plus I don't run a very low ride height. I do think the 245/35/18 will pass on an 18x9. The 245/40/17 which is wider than both 18" options barely passes on a 17x9, and I have seen pictures on a certain 17x9 wheel not fitting the template. That's the thing that really pisses me off. Greg (TT national director) says a 245/40/17 is legal on a 17x9 so you buy them and measure them and suddenly it barely doesn't fit. Well now you just wasted time and money. I have three sets of 17x10s for my S2000 and 11 sticker 245/40/17 A7s that I will have to add weight or retune the car to be able to use this season.

Another NASA NOLA region weekend in the books. It was my first weekend not on unknown Hoosier scrubs as I corded them at my last event. I went with my fresh 18x9.5 +27 Enkei NT03+Ms and 245/40/18 Hoosier R7 stickers. They fit well with a 5mm spacer up front to clear the Brembos as normal. A little rub in the rear, so I will probably roll those fenders a little more. They fit the NASA 266mm template very easily almost too easily and makes me wonder about an 18x10 with this tire. With that being said they felt great, but again this was my first time on sticker R7s on this car. I did a gradual warm up of them as Hoosier recommends on Saturday which I hoped would be enough for the win, but Dysen in his S2000 put on his 225 A7s on his 17x10s for the last session on Saturday and got me by 4 tenths. I didn't run because I wanted to let the stickers rest for 24 hours, and I knew the corded scrubs wouldn't be fast enough.

Sunday was a new day and we only had the first session to set a good laptime before the brutal heat started so Dysen and I gridded up right next to each other and went for it. He made a few mistakes and probably didn't leave enough gap, and I caught him on lap 2 and got the win by 5 tenths and the track record. Here are the laps:

Fantastic!!!! I’m thinking of attending NOLA in Sept for NASA. I think you will like the 10” width even more. I run 17x10.

I am running the full NOLA schedule, so I hope to see you. It is looking less like I will be going to Championships at CotA as my wife and I just purchased a business that leaves me very little free time. I ran the 17x10 with the 245/40/17 Hoosier A7 on my TT3 turbo S2000 for the past two years, and I loved it. Unfortunately I have already invested in three sets of 18x9.5s, so I will be sticking with that and knowing it fits the 266mm template easily.

So I have decided I am not doing the NASA Championships at CotA. Too many other priorities to really give the car and the event the time and money it needs. It was nice to have a relaxing NASA Mid South event at Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend. I only had 3 cars in TT4 and didn't play the game to get Hoosier contingency. I thought about bumping up to TT3 to make 7, but Adam and his Evo was competing there, and neither of us would have ended up beating those two C5 Corvettes. It was great having another TT Evo to hang out with for the weekend. Only NASA events left on my schedule are to finish out the NASA NOLA schedule, but I might look to add another out of region event. Video from this weekend:

I had another easy NASA NOLA weekend 2 weekends ago. I ran the minimum number of sessions and put the minimum number of heat cycles on my Hoosier R7s while taking the track record and winning Hoosiers both days. The car felt really good and is setup really well for this configuration of the NOLA track we call the NOVAL due to a few corners separating two long straights. As my car is the heaviest TT4 car it also has the most power which helped in this config. I ran a 1:16.4 which is less than a second slower than my TT3 track record in my turbo S2000 of a 1:15.5. I cancelled my dreams of a NASA Championship at CotA, and I regretted it badly this weekend although I don't think I could have beaten the fastest of the S54 powered dominating BMW E36 and E46s. NASA Southeast needed some instructors for this coming weekend, so I am heading over as I never even got over to run Roebling Road Raceway in my S2000. I haven't run it since my SpecE30 days in probably 2014ish. Not sure I am going to have anything for Joel Morrison's 1:18.1 track record in TT4, but I am going to give it a go. Here is my video from 2 weekends ago:

NASA Championshps at Circuit of the Americas

I believe we only had two Evos in competition. It was Justin Bordonaro in ST3 and Adam Baltutis in TT3. Justin was on the pole for the Championship Race on Sunday with a great qualifying lap, and came home in 4th place. Adam finished 4th in TT3 as well. I wonder if we will see any changes to the 4 door or AWD modifiers for next season.

Ya it was interesting to see them tie up ST3 with the GTS 3 and 4 guys. That's a crap ton of traffic management no matter how fast you can put down 1 lap. Lots of out of class racing from what I heard.
