255 vs 245 NT01 on 9.5" wheel

I've run a 255 and it seemed a little too wide. Would a 245 work better? I'm guessing it would be the same size as a "normal" 255, but with the inconsistencies of tire sizes, who knows.
figures the 255s are cheaper, right now.

I just got a set of 255 NT01s. They are not particularly wide. The 255 Dunlop Star Specs that I pulled off were wider.

Interesting. I went from R-S3 to RE71R and then Nitto, which were definitely wider. Especially compared to the Bstones. The Hankook fit perfect, the Bstones had a bit of a stretch and the Nitto fit like a NASCAR tire in comparison. I only did one event on them, though. Going right from the Bstone to Nitto, They definitely weren't as responsive... so I wanted to be sure I was running too much tire for the wheel, as I'm ordering the exact same setup. Star Specs must run crazy wide.

When I stack the Nittos the rims hit each other and that wasn’t the case with the Dunlops.

The NT01's don't have a rim protector. That's why the wheels touch. It's def wonder than the Star spec's

If you are looking for steering response from the Nittos, downsize them on the wheel. I run them in 275 on a 18x10.5 and they feel pretty good. However, they won't ever compare to the response you get from tires like the AD08R, etc.

That was my original plan... but at my power level, running OEM brakes, etc, I decided a 255 should be okay for a while. I don't remember the 255 being horrible on the 9.5.. but it was a bit wide and I felt it really needed a 10" wheel. Since I can't fit a 10" +38 RPF on the stock trailing arms, I'm left going back to the 9.5.
I suppose I'm okay with ultimate grip vs feel for now. I remember my RS-3s being a bit on the numb side, but made up for it in other ways. I'll go the same route this time. Well, I already ordered wheels and tires, so now it is what it is

Gotcha. Didn't think of that. I stand corrected!

I forgot too. That strip is quite substantial, actually. I was surprised, first time I saw it in person.

Keep the wider tire and get a wider wheel would be my advice. Generally you want a wheel that is .5" wider than the width of the tire.

Wider wheel won't for my car.

I ran a Chin event at Summit Point this weekend on the NT01s and wasn’t too impressed with them. I was a few tenths slower than last time out on Star Specs of the same size, despite having more HP. I lost time mostly in the carousel due to less lateral grip, especially in turns 5-9. The tires were wider for sure because I got some rubbing on the fender lips up front. I tried 38-42 hot pressures and they were just pushy at the limit compared to my old 200tw street tires. Maybe comparing full tread depth to 2/32nds isn’t a fair comparison though.
