Going into ABS?

How often are you guys seeing ABS? I can't remember the last time I've had more than just a hint. I do my best to stay at the threshold. Does that mean I'm not braking hard enough?

I actually never feel my abs and Im on ST43s. So really im not sure what it takes for it to kick in, but I rarely see it outside of snow driving. Even in the rain it seems to be pretty invisible if it is doing anything.

Okay, thanks. That's what I was wondering. The only time I've had it kick in is while bedding in pads or scuffing my tires. Even that was just to check out the car's limits. On track, I don't think it's ever been used.
What made me think about it was a vid of some british dude test driving a DTM car. He was saying how awesome it drove, being able to us ABS into some of the turns. That sounded odd to me, but I don't really know.

I feel like I brake pretty hard, maybe I need to just push harder to see if we lock up. OEM balance feels really good though. Maybe could use a little more rear bias, but overall seems pretty good 95% of the time.

I’ve never had mine act up on track either. The only times I have felt it is when driving in snow as well, & a couple of times when the road had transitioned from flat to down hill suddenly and I’m coming in a bit hot.

Depend on the track Chuckwalla seems to not say very clean, even during a session, or the surface isn't great, so I get into ABS a lot there. At Spring Mountain and Willow Springs, not so much. Stock, the car has a lot of rear bias. If the ABS ever fails, the rears lock up first. I experienced this when I lost an ABS sensor wire on track. Similar brake pressure resulted in rear lock up that did happen on previous lap, looked down and ABS light was on. So I think the ABS pump is working at least some of the time and we don't realize it.

Now that you mention it, my first Evo had an ABS failure. At AutoX ,I locked up the wheels coming to a stop for my time slip. It sure didn't seem to take much.

Also, the ABS is awesome on these cars. It can help straighten the car under braking when normally the extra weight transfer should upset the car more. Thinking about on throttle oversteer straight to braking for next element.

This seems extremely counter intuitive, care to elaborate?

OT: like others never hit it on track. Only a few times on road when it has been very icy on the VIII. Never on the X.

In terms of the comment above some "hardcore" old schoolers believe ABS "meddling" is detrimental. Maybe true for very elite professional drivers but I can't see this being true for most average HPDErs or even auto Xers. I'll keep my ABS thanks!

theoretically, you can brake harder by reaching the threshold without ABS. But you have to practice a lot.
