I have a EGT probe in one of the runners..

This was on a stock manifold.. I just drilled and tapped a hole, and installed a mount for the egt probe. The new setup will have a tubular manifold, with a welded on mount.
I know that people sometimes drill these with the manifold on the car, but I did take it of.. dont care much for metal shavings getting into the turbo

The bigger question is whether EGT is a helpful tuning parameter on our cars. Tuning to lower EGTs, especially by running leaner and advancing timing, isn’t necessarily safer when you don’t know about the underlying increases in combustion chamber temp and/or cylinder pressure. I took my probe out because I was worried about it eventually falling off and going through the turbo.

With the EGT probe, you can see several 100 degF fluctuations in temperature within seconds depending on what the driver input is. On the stock turbo, I could hit 1800+ deg F by 6000rpm and 28 psi. If you leave it in gear and decel from the top of 4th, you can lower the temps to 500 deg F. It's actually pretty amusing. I don't run an EGT probe anymore. Just Boost, Oil pressure, and Wideband.

I have my EGT post turbo because I find it more useful to be able to see how all cylinders are doing. One a stock frame setup you can only see the temp of two cylinders unless you run a second probe. I was asking those questions to see if anyone was running a two probe setup.
I don't use EGT for tuning, merely as a health check. If I see temps lower than normal I know I've lost a cylinder or something is potentially wrong.
