That vid is exactly why I can do road racing. Id be just constantly annoyed the guy was just bullying the corners ruining everyones time just to block any passers. I know thats part of the game, just not the game I want to play. TA/TT is really the only thing on track that interests me cause I want to see how fast the car/driver/setup is. Not how good can I be an asshat

I wish I woulda put the rear camera on for perspective. Not only was I trying to gain position, but I had to hold my position against the 5-6 cars that were stacked behind me, all while seesawing the wheel to keep it from sliding away, a very good exercise in the "treat the throttle like there's an egg under it". I get 1 maybe 2 of those feelings/emotions doing TT lol. The chase is just something you can feel, the clock for me was always numb. Also my watch said I burned 1680 calories during that race lol.

So how low can Evo 8/9 weigh in ST3 and be legal?
If tuned/de tuned.

Idea being to keep weight low, run widest possible tire(282mm?), to have good tire wear and chassis balance.

As low as you dare really, there's no min/max in 1-3. If you could get it down to 2950 "as raced" weight (you, running on empty fuel, cage, etc) you'd have to run it at 282 dynojet, 257 mustang with wide tires or If you jumped up just 50 lbs to 3000 min, or ran 275 tires, you'd be at 291 DJ, 265 Mus. 3k lbs is still too much for the softer 275 rubber though.

Thinking more about safety upgrades as I move through HPDE toward TT4 or TT3. I don't have room for a trailer until I buy a storage unit, so I'm still driving to and from the track. Full cage isn't an option (yet).

What's the current thinking on bolt-in half roll cages like the Autopower for TT use? I'd be installing it with the reinforcement plates. Worthwhile safety upgrade? I haven't been able to find many track rollover reports with an Autopower half cage, other than the old photos of the Mustang crash where the bars punched through the floor.

Ya that mustang was there a weekend before I was lol. But ya you got it, big base plates for the cage baseplates. Would be nice to make it stout enough to re-use with the real custom cage "later". The issue in evo's is the roof/a/b pillar material is already pretty thin so don't go too too long before you go full cage.

If you can find a used AP then its not a bad option especially with additional reinforcement plates on the bottom. That being said I was set on doing the same thing until I priced it out and came to the conclusion that after freight it was close to the same cost of having a custom roll bar built locally. Of course you will need to ask around and find out who the racers use for cages as its not something you want to skimp on or just go with the lowest bid. But I think you'll be surprised to hear how affordable they can be if done by the right person. Mine came in under $1000 and the fit and finish is just plain better than you could get with an AP.

I'd ask sooner than later. Lots of shops are hiking up prices 20-50% because of the tariffs.

Chinese made steel? I dont see why prices would rise unless that is the case. US steal, hand made cage via US labor. Should not have any tariffs.

Tariffs indirectly increase the price of domestic goods, too. Tariffs shift demand to other sources, like US steel. More demand = higher prices.

Ya timing is everything. Once the "supply" of US steel goes down from a surge then ya'll they'll go up. But for now they should be only slightly higher.

It's mostly raw material suppliers taking advantage of the situation, yes there is going to be a higher demand for domestic material now but they're cutting themselves a larger profit now because they don't have to compete with Chinese metal and businesses don't really have any option other than to pass that additional cost onto the customer. It doesn't matter if shops didn't use Chinese steel before, the tariffs still push up price on domestic goods. Eventually it'll come down but it might be a while.

Considering NASA TT again. Wouldn’t mind gridlife if anything near Oklahoma. It’s just fun for me since my car is TT1 class. Didn’t build my car to do the King Kong Condom (previous poster) and slow it down.

500hp
No aero
295/35 17x10 (how the heck u guys get 10,5’s?)
not full cage
AP 8350 oem replacement brakes

Am I close to any class other than unlimited? Probably set on 2020 season.

There is trackmod (Gridlife) / limited (Global Time Attack). They're almost mirrored classes and sit right below unlimited in both series. I will say you won't be competitive without aero though. Most guy have in the range of 500-700whp and more tire than 295s.

10.5s fit with aftermarket trailer arms in the rear and either spacing out the front fenders or using aftermarket panels.

Thanks Ayoustin. Will check out both track options. And hopefully find some aero soon. Couldn’t find the aftermarket trailing arms needed to fit 10.5’s last I checked.
